    Question on digging swales

Well, I just got off the phone with our guy from the big equipment rental company in our area. He told me that something like an excavator tilt-bucket, or tilt-boxblade "doesn't exist". I must have been hallucinating the 8 million times I've seen one used on a job site...I guess I'll be doing...

    Question on digging swales

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Stump Jumper, you're idea might be the way to go. JDOFMEMI, that was the first thing I though of, but I see any way that I could remove from the bucket, but that would be strong enough not to fall off while working. I still think I might be able to attach...

    Question on digging swales

Thanks for the reply Lee, I hadn't thought of the mini with the rototilt. I guess that's probably my best bet for this job. Like you said, once I get the slope started, I should be able to run down the length of the swale with the 277 tipped to one side and cut the slope the rest of the way...

    Question on digging swales

Hello Everyone, I have a job coming up which requires me to create a small v-swale behind a new building (like the one pictured in this link: http://www.parmeleegeology.com/slope%20drain.JPG. The swale is to run the entire length of the building (about 500 feet). The slope on each side is to...

    liebheer excavators in north america

I just saw my first Liebherr's yesterday. Two 924's working on the side of I-95, south of Orlando. I didn't think they make it this far south.

    Engine Oil as Hydraulic Fluid??

Thanks for the responses everyone. I don't think we'll plan on using engine oil in our hydraulic system anytime soon, if ever. As a few of you pointed out, there's not much money to be saved anyway. I was just wondering. Man, Atco responded to one of my posts. I feel honored!!!!

    Engine Oil as Hydraulic Fluid??

We had our mechanic out fixing a hydraulic hose the other day and he mentioned that some machines are starting to be outfitted with hydraulic systems that accept standard engine oil. Sounded like nonsense at the time, and it still does now. Is there anything to this?

    Dump Truck Accident

This is why I love this website. I feel so stupid now for all the times I've raised the bucket on our machine to do something, but didn't put the safety arm down. Thankfully I can take the lesson from these stories and not from my own accident.

Whats the craziest thing you have dug up?

Our backhoe operator found the city water main once. I was in the trench with a cut saw working on a storm water box, and got out to drink some water. When I turned back around the ditch was full with water up to where my head was.

Hydraulic Fluid out of 277B Engine Compartment

Does anybody know any tricks for cleaning lots of hydraulic fluid out of engine compartments? Our 277B blew a hydraulic hose last week while I was spreading #57 rock. The hose blew inside the engine compartment and the engine, muffler, everything got soaked. Luckily I noticed and shut the...

what is the best tracked skid steer?

Our company has a Cat 277B. It's pretty good on fuel, and has enough power for everything we've ever done. I've run it with grapples on three major land clearing jobs with no issues, picking up 13 or 14 inch, 60 or 70 foot long logs. Also, we've run it in mheavy mud on each of those jobs and...
