Looking at Massey Ferguson 200 Dozer

That’s great to know, thank you. So odds are if I needed steering clutches on it, they wouldn’t be available or order?

Looking at Massey Ferguson 200 Dozer

I found a cheap 6 way Massey Ferguson dozer that won’t steer left and I’m looking for some input. I’ve never had a Massey Ferguson. Are these pretty reliable machines? The guy says it’ll steer right but when you pull to steer left while going forward it screeches. When you pull left in...

It’s the crawler loader with a backhoe.

1977 Deere 450c Engine Lugs even in Neutral

After looking through the manual it’s hard to tell where in the transmission the HLR clutch oil manifold is located. Is it in a spot in the transmission where I could only get to it if I remove the engine?

1977 Deere 450c - Turning Left , Right Track Pops

If I steering left stick hard going in reverse, I get a hard pop on the right side sounding like it’s at the sprocket. I’ve tightened the tracks to spec as tight as possible (7/8” sag), it was about 2-1/2” sag, and it still pops. Tracks are not packed with junk either. When going forward it...

1977 Deere 450c Engine Lugs even in Neutral

Thanks for all the very helpful information! I’m going to hook the gauge back up just to verify the clutch valve adjustment then I’ll increase the pressure some and call it good until I’m ready to pull the engine and dig in. While I’m going to be back there working on it, is it worth looking...

1977 Deere 450c Engine Lugs even in Neutral

The weird thing is now it will intermittently not lug while in reverse. Is there anything else to check? What about if I shim to increase to a better/high pressure? Right now reverse is out of spec.

1977 Deere 450c Engine Lugs even in Neutral

Could the low reverse pressure either be the reason for the lugging (partially engaged reverse or some pressure bleeding to other clutch pack)? It’s weird how after adjusting the clutch pedal and valve, for the first time, I had no lugging in reverse for a minute. It almost felt just like H or L.

1977 Deere 450c Engine Lugs even in Neutral

Sorry I forgot to mention that. Yes it rises the approximate 5psi when I press the clutch 1/2”. I removed the rubber plug but didn’t see shims just another metal plug. Do I have to unscrew that to get to it? Sorry the manual has tons of information but is just vague enough that I can’t figure...

1977 Deere 450c Engine Lugs even in Neutral

Heres a video showing if I go from R to N to R there doesn’t seem like as much lugging of the engine until I got from H to R then it lugs hard and stays lugging hard. At one point I heard a faint “snap or click” when I was shifting and then it was smooth in reverse for the first time. Absolutely...

1977 Deere 450c Engine Lugs even in Neutral

I got it and pressures seem ok but borderline too low. I’m at 160psi in reverse and 164 in H or L. Weird how Reverse lugs and has lower pressure than H and L. Should I add shims to increase pressure or should these be ok? I have zero slipping in HL or R. Here is a video of pressures and speeds...

1977 Deere 450c Engine Lugs even in Neutral

Well I’m trying to figure out which port I open to install the pressure gauge.. someone said right hand side top of transmission plug but I pulled that rubber plug out and there’s no 1/4” pipe plug, it’s more like 5/8 or 1/2”. In the manual it looks like the center plug which needs a special...

I meant to say, tighten to remove free play or loosen to increase free play.

1977 Deere 450c Engine Lugs even in Neutral

No dumb questions I really appreciate all the help. I do believe so. The terms in the tech manual are tighten or loosen, I presumed tighten is clockwise so that’s how I tried adjusting. I have quite a ways to go before bottoming out but the screw is very tight as it is and I made sure I’m not...

1977 Deere 450c Engine Lugs even in Neutral

Well I started adjust the clutch free play but I can seem to get it to adjust? I’ve turn the adjust screw probably 3 full rotations with no impact on the clutch pedal free travel. It’s still at about 4” and the manual calls for 3-3/4”. It shouldn’t take a whole lot of turns to bring it 1/4”...

1977 Deere 450c - Very Hard to Start in Cold

Yes I have some hazy light Greyish smoke coming out while cranking. I’m sure a rebuild is in order in the future. For now oil pressure is great and power is great as well so I think I’ll be ok to run it for a while yet. I have 47 psi oil pressure at full throttle. Specs say 50 +/- 15psi at full...

1977 Deere 450c - Very Hard to Start in Cold

Unfortunately I’m working on land I bought to build and there is currently no electric. In the future I like the idea of a block heater though. I can see it prolonging the life of the equipment by easy starting. Excellent information! I’m going to look into this as well. Right now I don’t have...

1977 Deere 450c Engine Lugs even in Neutral

Thanks for the suggestion. I think everything checks out on the hydraulic side of things. When I use the hydraulics, the engine rarely lugs down. The shutting off turned out to be bad wiring behind the dash. Thanks for taking the time to do this. Yes I would say I definitely have a problem...

John Deere 555a - Bad Starter solenoid - How do I lift the loader?

I have a John Deere 555a that I need to move and the starter solenoid was going out on it and apparently it has bit the dust now. Well… I can’t take the start out with the loader arms in my way and I can’t figure out how to lift the loader. I tried putting it in float mode, and I tried strapping...

Well I don’t know what happened but it randomly started and it ran another 3 hours until I shut it down for the day.
