    Cat d6c 3306t

Well I figured I would keep everyone updated on my quest for a dozer. I got a line on a nice looking 1993 D5H XL. It is quite a bit more expensive than some of the older girls I have been looking at. Do any of you guys have experience with the D5H models? I will be sure to post up pictures...

    D5H XL U/C Measurements

Does anyone know where I can get the U/C measurements for a D5H XL? I am going to look at one later this week and it is nice to have a general idea of the measurements.

Hey oldirt, I just noticed you are from Iowa too. What part of Iowa are you from?

I am with you Merv. I can definitely live with some problems, but most of the machines I have looked at have more problems than I know how to fix. Unfortunately, getting people that know how to work on these old girls isn't easy...and my wallet isn't big enough to call CAT out to work on it...

Wow, that is crazy. I tell you what, I am extremely happy I posted this on here. There were alot of good eyes out there pointing me in the right direction, thank you.

    Cat d6c 3306t

I appreciate everyone's response, it helped me greatly when looking over the dozer. There were several good points with the dozer, but in my opinion the bad outweighed the good. It had a significant transmission leak. It was down several gallons and was visibly dripping from the skid plate...

Yeah, I noticed the spittoon too :) Well I am heading down tomorrow to see the dozer first hand. I will take some more pictures of it and report back (including a couple more of the sprocket). As fate would have it, I just found someone else who also has a D6C for sale and it is on my way...

    Cat d6c 3306t

The sprockets didn't look too bad to me, but I don't know what the measurements should be on them. I can get some better pictures of them too. I am not sure what a fair price would be on the dozer...what would you think? I guess you are up in Canada so prices might be different.

You are not nit-picking at all. I didn't notice the leaking roller and that is why I posted all the pictures so you guys would catch stuff like that. Is it hard to replace those? I am guessing you have to take off the track.

Thanks for the reply. So why do people talk about the turning of the pins/bushings? How do you tell if they have been 'turned'?

    Cat d6c 3306t

You have a good eye, the guy said some of the bottom rollers have been replaced recently. How big of a deal is the leaking roller? Are those supposed to be sealed or can it just be greased? I guess you can never be sure about the hours but if it was a farmer owned machine, it is believable...

I was worried about parts too, but I called CAT and they said they still have parts for it. Who knows what the future holds though. Time for a dumb question, where are the bushings at on the tracks? I know people talk about the pins/bushings but I didn't know what they were referring too.

Sorry for the upside down pictures...I don't know why it did that. I can re-post them if necessary.

    Cat d6c 3306t

I am looking pretty hard at a CAT D6C with the 3306T engine. Serial number is 10k13318. I was wondering if there is anything specific (known problems with this model) I should look for. I am hoping someone out there has the measurements for the undercarriage. It is a 2 owner dozer and was...

    Case 1550 LT Dozer

I am looking at buying a 1988 Case 1550 long track dozer. It is a hydro, has a 6 way blade, full cab with glass, and 5000 hours. I was wondering if anyone out there has experience with this dozer and can give me an idea of known problems/issues with this model and if there is anything in...

    D6c 3306t

I will get a serial number tonight. It is the PS transmission. It was county owned...I am not sure why they would need a machine with such big pads. Are they typically used for muddy/sandy conditions?

    D6c 3306t

I am looking at buying a D6C with the 3306T engine (140 HP). It has the low ground pressure tracks (36" pads) and a cab with heat. It has 6935 hours and overall the machine looks to be in good condition. I was wondering if there is anything particular I need to watch out for with this model...

    Replacing Brake Bands on D5

Well I figured I would provide an update for the people who have been following along. I was able to make a brake pedal linkage adjustment to get my left brake to work again. I was able to drain out all of the oil in the right brake compartment, then had someone spray brake cleaner (alot of...
