Massive stumping project started. What next?

We just cleared about 50 acres of wooded land for home building sites. Big pines and hard wood. Used a Kobelco SK300 excavator to pull the big stumps and shake the dirt loose, and a John Deere 655 crawler loader with a clam bucket. We burned as much brush and small stuff as we could and hauled...

How do you loosen stuck clutch adjustment ring?

Yea, and some pressure plates have the 5/8 bolt head you turn clockwise to adjust, and some have just the lock bracket you take out and turn the ring manually, that was the one I was talking about. And if it is the 5/8 bolt head type there is still a lock you have to push in the wrench or socket...

    Labor rate software?

I second that there is really no flat rate for heavy equipment or truck repair other than the flat rate the equipment company pays for warranty work which is always under paid. Thats why no one likes warranty work. When doing a job you never know what you are going to run into, like who mickey...

    The pulse of America

The worst part is that almost all politicians are, or were, lawyers. And they word things so that the common person can't really understand what they are saying or doing. They look out for there own, and don't do anything unless it benefits them.

How do you loosen stuck clutch adjustment ring?

I also use the air chiesel with a blunt punch make sure you have the clutch pedal all the way down, and turn the ring clockwise. I use a piece of 2x4 wood I cut to just the right length so I can push the pedal down then jam it against the front of the driver seat so I can do it by myself alone...

    Dear Oldtimers

The reason us older guys know so much is because we have already screwed things up every way possible, so we know what works and what doesn't. There is no substitute for experience.

    The pulse of America

I don't think much will ever change as long as we have 2 political party's who's only agenda seems to be shooting down what ever the other party proposes. We can't get ahead until we stop the childish fighting amongst the 2 party's. We need to abolish both party's and have one common goal, to...

John Deere 850 wide track crawler cheap

We have a old John Deere 850 wide track crawler / dozer, the tag is gone off of it and I can't find any numbers on it. It hasn't run in about 3 years, it is old and kind of worn out but it had a new cummins short block put in not many hours on it. I guess the reason they didn't want to fix it is...

    Mechanic pay

After being a truck mechanic for 30 years, my opinion of truck drivers is they are one step above being a maintenance job cleaning toilets as far as skill level and smarts in order to find a job.

    Mechanic pay

If you drive a truck part time you would make less than the mechanic only. At least where I work, drivers are a dime a dozen.

    Hand Cleaners

Brake clean is bad JuJu never let it touch your skin. I have been to a dermatologist also for cracking and bleeding hands, and its no fun. I won't go near a parts cleaner tank anymore without good rubber gloves. Also I use Eucerin hand cream before I go to bed, I found it to be the best for dry...

    Hand Cleaners

I'll give the Boraxo a try, but I am dead serious about the Lava and Fels Naptha bar soap used together at the same time, for about $5 it will last a month or 2. You won't believe how good it works until you try it. Of course if my hands are really greasy I will use some gojo or similar to get...

    Hand Cleaners

For a final wash, once you get the thick stuff off, and economical, I found that using Lava bar soap and Fels Naptha bar soap together works like magic. I lather up with lava then lather up with the fels naptha at the same time for some reason it works great used together.

This is so crazy its sad!

When I used to work for Mack trucks a factory branch, the parts guys told me mark up on Mack parts was 100% mark up. The order of money making profits was #1 most money was made from selling parts. #2 used truck sales. #3 New truck sales. And #4 the (necessary evil) service department.

What do you carry with you?

Hammer, screw driver, duct tape, Hay wire. If a man can't fix it with that he will never amount to anything.

    JD 544H throttle pedal sticks

The JB weld epoxy worked great its back in use, The main problem was underneath those nylon plastic bushings in the pedal base, I took the plastic bushings out and sanded the holes out good with emery cloth, put back together and the pin is nice and free now. Steel on aluminum is not good.

    JD 544H throttle pedal sticks

Update, I'm trying some JB weld epoxy on the pedal, I guess I will find out tomorrow if it will work, it needs 16 hours to cure, might save $200+

    JD 544H throttle pedal sticks

I got the brake pedal freed up without taking it apart, something I should have tried in the first place with the throttle. I took the smallest torch I had and with the floor mat out I carefully heated the aluminum pedal around the pin, and also heated the pin ends on both sides and then soaked...
