Bob, Another Galion tip- the recoil spring set up on the side of the boom (Galion calls it a gleason reel) has two broken spring indicators that screw into it. Check to make sure one of them isn't popped up indicating a broken spring. If their good take them both out and run the boom out... -

Golden rule for vicon-never lower a load faster than the crane could hoist it with torque conv. Many ops. have ruined a lot of torques by having a load get away from them and rather than stop it with a squeeling brake they yank back the conv.control and waste the torque. Hope you have... -
