    Cat 80 vs cat 435

I've seen a couple if 491's waiting to be converted to hydraulics. They are huge! The guy doing the conversions uses one to build dugouts and lagoons, pulling it with two John Deere track machines hooked together. I haven't seen it, but no thanks!

    Cat 80 vs cat 435

It's a Case quadtrack set at 510 hp(chipped 435). I can load it heaped, it has 12" boards. Last few yards of dirt get tough pulling, so I usually don't bother heaping it.

    Cat 80 vs cat 435

Great info! 435's vary a lot I see. Are their a bunch of different 463's as well? My tractor seems to handle the 80 nicely for what I'm doing.

    Cat 80 vs cat 435

Thanks for the help guys. I've been running a cat 70 round for ditching on my farm for 15 years now. The quad tracks we're using now could use a bigger scraper. I've heard that a 435 would be the right size, and a 463 is too big. So I was wondering how a 80 flat fit into the picture. I...

    Cat 80 vs cat 435

Can anyone tell me what the differences are between a cat 80 flat bottom and a cat 435 scraper? Is the 80 as hard to load as a 463? Rob

    Cat 60 scraper????

Wow, they sure screwed up on the lift cylinders. Maybe someone replaced the proper cylinders with shorter ones? I'm pretty sure my scrapers are just 1/2" lines, same as what comes on most machinery, but bigger sure wont hurt. How is the apron lift configured? That's my next concern if some...

    Cat 60 scraper????

So how did it work out ironage? I'm betting you're happy with the 60 round. If you're short on traction pulling it, you can reduce the blade angle by placing flat iron on the front edge and bolting the blades back on

What size scraper can a D5B pull

Taylortractornu, a Laplante(later bought by Allis-Chalmers) scraper would work really well for you. A 106(6 yard struck) would probably be a nice size for you. They are lighter and easier to load than a Cat scraper( I have both). 108 seems to be the most common size, and I've also seen a 104...

Antifreeze pH meters - any experiences with these?

swampdog, they're NAPA brand, packaged in a plastic bottle(like a pill bottle). I'll look for the number on it tommorow. Bought them 2 yrs ago, so I don't have the invoice anymore. I have NAPA brand coolant additive(same as WIX) from them too, 1 gal jugs. The additives are very important...

    Case IH Steiger tractors........

aglasergps, what's the cost on the Trimble 3D GNSS levelling system? I was planning on going to a laser system, but I didn't know something better was available. What engine did your tractor have originally? A 3406C was Cat's first shot at electronics, so it must be a newer replacement. I'm...

    STX 435 + Cat 463 ?

When we bought it last winter, 535 was the largest Case IH available here. I think there was a 575 Challenger, but we didn't want a 2 track machine again. And the 510 hp version I demo'd seemed overrated, it couldn't outpull my old 9400T(425 hp).

Antifreeze pH meters - any experiences with these?

swampdog, I ordered some from NAPA. They are easy to use. You dip it in the coolant, wait half a minute, and then compare the colours on your test strip to the examples on the side of the package. One spot is for pH, another for nitrite(coolant additive levels)and the last spot is for freeze...

    STX 435 + Cat 463 ?

Thanks for the info everyone. I guess crawlers have more traction. If I recall corectly, my quad is over 50 000 lbs. The metal tracks on a D8 must help a lot, but I wonder what they weigh? The shop converting the 463scraper told me they usually reduce the blade angle from 45 to 35' to make...

Diesel Additive Study...what do you use?

The older engines really like 2% biodiesel, I think the lubricity helps the pump and injectors work better. Slight power increase, fuel economy increase. No noticeable power change on EFI engines.

    best grease?

We use Sonic molyguard grease from CO-OP on our farm machines. It's been excellent, anything greased with it lasts really well. The base isn't very thick, excellent winter grease.
