Cat D3B, cant find part number on pcc

Thanks Dave, I copied that into PCC and it said no results found. Is that the old parts number from the manual?

Cat D3B, cant find part number on pcc

Thanks Nige, I threw the old parts manual away about 6 years ago when every time i had a part number from the manual, i called cat, and they told me it was the wrong part number and they didnt have a reference number for me. PCC has usually served me well but every once in a while i come across...

Cat D3B, cant find part number on pcc

We have a cat D3b, serial 27Y01619. I have searched pcc (parts.cat.com) to no end tying to find the throttle control group for the cab station and cannot hit the mark. Hoping some of you smarter than me folks can point me in the right direction. I want to replace the whole assembly, from where...

    '88 D3B - Name that part

Serial tag attached. Will get it opened up and photos tomorrow, but no matter what, as that U joint went I want to replace both sides and the shaft. I'm sure with my luck, more will be broken.

    '88 D3B - Name that part

Thank both of you guys so much! I looked in the parts book to try and find part numbers but can't seem to find it. Would either of you happen to know the part numbers to replace that whole assembly?

    '88 D3B - Name that part

Have an 88 D3B, was out working, went to back up and saw the part in these photos laying on the ground right behind me. Figured I better track it up to the shop and figure out where it came from, but after about 400 foot forward, the dozer quit moving, in all gears forward or reverse. Assuming...

1988 D3B, white smoke from bottom end of motor

Well, I just got the tracking number for the kit being in route, guess worst case I have to return it and get a bigger size.

1988 D3B, white smoke from bottom end of motor

Thanks buddy, that was it, once I knew what to look for it was easy to find. Just ordered a "major overhaul" kit from AgKits.com , actually reasonably priced. Now let's just hope there isn't $10,000 in labor to get it done.

1988 D3B, white smoke from bottom end of motor

Just checked it after it sat last night, no coolant..... Thank all things that are holy, that's not a problem I would have wanted.

1988 D3B, white smoke from bottom end of motor

Checked and all good on that side of things, thanks for the tip! I wouldn't have even though of that as I always associate black smoke with fuel and since thus was white it wouldn't have clicked with me.

1988 D3B, white smoke from bottom end of motor

Thanks, it was puffing a moderate amount so it must be blowby from bad rings, bad piston, or worn sleeve. Still can't figure out how there is smoke from the underbelly but no fluid leaking. It's cramped under there so it's hard to see exactly where it's coming from.

1988 D3B, white smoke from bottom end of motor

So our little farm dozer started smoking this morning. Smoke is coming from the right hand side ( if your sitting in the seat) looks like from the oil pan area, but no signs of leaking oil. Smoke is white. The exhaust is not smokey at all. Our mechanic said he is 2 weeks out to get to us as he...

case 780 impulse buy, so many questions....

While I'd love to document the process of fixing up this old machine in hopes it may help others along the way or provide some entertainment, I'm old, and I've already raised my kids. Dealing with a bunch of other people's kids on an internet forum while doing my first heavy machinery rebuild...

case 780 impulse buy, so many questions....

There are a lot of those other older machines. In my eyes the 780 is a rarity. They are big, too big to be practical any more, a 2wd loader is pretty much a useless tool, there is next to no reason to restore one. Hence the appeal to me. If I do this one right, make it something special, maybe...

case 780 impulse buy, so many questions....

I think there was a bit of "lost in translation" there. The point wasn't to "flaunt" money. It was to settle down an armchair warrior. It's easy for people to sit behind a screen and act foolish, say foolish things or be ignorant or rude. Because they are sitting in an armchair behind a screen...

case 780 impulse buy, so many questions....

I may take you up on your offer. We pressure tested the coolant system today, 99% it had a cracked sleeve and blown head gasket. Never the less, still ordering pretty much everything to rebuild top to bottom, was on the fence about the rods, but one has a very tiny stress fracure that I could...

Well at least I can cover the hoses, cylinders, engine work and tires. Should be a great party. Drinks are on me for anyone who wants to come get covered in ancient grease and hydraulic fluid.

case 780 impulse buy, so many questions....

"Smart money, of course not" Amen man. I'm $130,000usd into a 2006 ford F350 extended cab long bed over my last "hobby build". I could have bought a 2024 F450 platinum with every option for 3/4 or less the money. But Damn is that 06 fun to drive and lord does it drop jaws when people look under...

And this is a perfect example of what happens when someone walks in on the middle of a conversation and has no context for what's actually going on. Glad to see this forum isn't immune, I see it everywhere when conversing in this format.
