My customer has a WA480-6 S# A48038.

The machine has an E03 CA324 error code for a #3 injector open or short. Now I have a few questions so I know how to approach this........

1. How has Komatsu been on their reman'd injectors? I usually wont even consider rebuilds as I haven't had good luck with them overall.
2. Is it possible for the injector coil to throw this code? The problem has been erratic (according to Komtrax its coded this 17 times since May 26th) I ran the machine this morning and couldn't get the code to come up....typical.
3. Are these injectors plug and play? or will they need calibration after install?
4. The operator states that he cant tell a difference in the engine power or operation when the code and alarm are going on.
I would think there would be a dead cylinder and should be very noticeable. Not something I would think a failing injector would do.
5. The engine has several exhaust leaks..at the manifold ports on #5 and #6 .......and also the turbo exhaust housing where it bolts to the bearing case. I dont believe this is related in any way to the error code above.

The reason I need this info is because the engine has 17473 hours on what looks like the original injectors, and possibly the original pump. The customer has very little info on past repair records so I am not absolutely positive on this. Normally I would do a diesel tune on an engine with 10-12k hours by running the overhead, replacement of all the fuel injectors and the pump, and I usually would replace the injector wire harness. This is a difficult sell for a customer that believes their engine is running fine but,......their PM is abysmal and the fuel system has had water run through it numerous times in the past.

I'm not sure I want to just do a simple repair and not advise the customer of what should happen at this point. What has been you guys experience on something like this?

It's too new for my old experience but what I have seen on older units is that the engine is on borrowed time if it is original. Komatsu engines, if that is what is in this machine, generally break before they are worn out. If it is a Cummins clone, I would have a hard time believing it is original.

I might just inform the owners and give them a list of options. I generally don't give any opinions of what I would do anymore. I've heard "you said" too many times.

The engine is a Komatsu one, 6D125E-5
1. I may be wrong but I think there is no Komatsu reman injectors for these engines...maybe from aftermarket tho
2. Yes, if the coil is bad it can (0.4-1.1 ohms is normal) but there is a small 2 wires harness inside the valve cover that is between the main engine harness and the injector that is more likely to be the culprit (open circuit).
3.Yes plug and play
4.Sometimes with these electronic engines it is hard to tell if a cylinder is missing because the ECM make the others cylinders ''compensate'' for the one that is bad, especially if it's on light duty.
5. I just don't see how it would be related unless hot exhaust leaks burned the wiring harness but it's not even on the same side of the engine.

Most of the time, with good care, these engines are almost bulletproof...but at 17 ish hours if the fuel system is the original one then it's time for a refresh.

Goog luck

Ahhh check the plug for the injector isn't damaged or loose, check the nuts on the injector aren't loose for the harness
Check the injector resistance should be like around .6.8ohms or something
I'd be leaning towards nuts or harness myself. Those connectors get damaged alot too I've seen. Finally if nothing shows up swap injectors around to another spot , if it moves injectors your culprit.
