hello,

i'm back again, this time searching for advice on purchasing a hydraulic thumb for my excavator. what should i search for? which is the best one? which is the most economic one in terms of cost and performance and maintenance? what are the maintenance like on them, are they high maintenance ? i'm not sure if i will be able to afford a new one, that's why i'm concerned about durability.20190429_134643.jpg 20190429_134643.jpg

I guess for starters the 1st thing you would want to do is contact HKX for an option Plumbing kits Make sure that you tell them what you're after is bi directional flow that way you'll be able to use your existing Spool you'll have electronical controls and it will integrate smoothly. The next step is the find out what's available near you obviously you don't want to buy something here in the States and haven't exported and then imported and pay all the duties and sit around waiting for everything to clear customs. What products are in your area work JRB paladin these are all things you have to do on your end. When you have a list of names people may chime in from around the world describing their experience with that product and that would help you get a better decision on what you want to do with your machine
Is that machine in the pic what you are going to install on, or is it just a representative picture? If that is it, most of the work has been done.

I have been using thumbs from these guys for 15yrs. I currently have a hyd one on a Volvo210. There parts guys and customer service are very good. The thumb it self is very well built. I do a a lot of demo and trees and have yet to break mine. Probably not the cheapest out there but very well built.

So I finally got a thumb last month. I bought a hydraulic progressive thumb from bedrock machinery. They manufacture their thumbs to fit CAT so I had a few modifications to make to get it to fit to my Komatsu so

Looks good, don't recall seeing that linkage to the thumb like that before.
I am anxious to see it in action . Looks like solid construction.

The added linkage allows for a degree of motion. Where a regular hydraulic thumb may stop after 120° this type with the added linkage will go up to about 200° basically

That's a progressive link thumb. That has been the normal configuration in this area for years. It's meant to form a straight line with the stick when the cylinder is fully extended. You only get problems when the installer puts the cylinder base boss on too far forward and the thumb linkage goes past the line of the stick, over center as it were.
