Big part of the problem is that the larger manufacturers are run by kids with MBA’s and no real world experience. It’s all about the bottom line from an accounting and business practice standpoint.
Some analyst fresh out of college isn’t going to understand why a PDI at the dealership is waaaaaay more effective than doing it at the factory before it ships. All they see is an opportunity to shuffle some costs around and save a publicly traded corporation millions of dollars a year which drives up share prices and gets them ahead in their career.
For sake of argument, and knowing I’m not impartial on this, Case has been making some really great loaders in the G series. All made in North Dakota and the case dealers still do their inspection at the dealership as opposed to the factory.

We rented a 921 this summer while the 950g was getting a new motor put in at the dealer. The guys in the quarry liked it. They offered to sell it to us for a good price, but Cat stepped up with a great price and good financing on the new 950 that's giving us the headaches now. One machine that we are having great luck and service with is Link belt. In the past 3 summers we have got 3 145 spin Ace 1 235 zero swing and a 350. They were going to buy another 350 but ended up with 485 Hitachi instead.

Those Link-Belts are identical to the Case excavators. All made on the same assembly line in Chiba Japan by Sumitomo. They get to the end of the line and go right for a Link-Belt red or Left for a Case Power Tan paint job.
