Tc i sure wish you were on this side of the pond. My little 951b has lost all power/braking to the left track. There were no pops or bangs or loud noises so i hope it is nothing too serious. I was turning pretty gradual and had he pedal pushed in just to where the clutch was released but not far enough to where i was on the brake and when I let up on the pedal the track wouldnt pull in forward or reverse. Would you have any ideas. Also is there anyone in the St. Louis Missouri with the press tooling for the finals if it comes to that

It is just not under power it moves perfectly fine. When I mash the clutch/brake pedal all the way down it won't apply the brake either. It is just as if someone pulled the sun gear out of a planetary gear set

Very Dark Day on Monday 8th September Erwin Rhodes was killed at work, I dont know any detail but I must admit to being "Gutted" as what a Man he was 6ft 7" tall, probably the strongest chap I ever met, with a manner of a top gent, what this World can throw at you is sometimes hard to understand.

So R.I.P. Erwin, totaly Gutted tctractors

p.s. I had to post this here as I know a few of his pals read the odd bit of my script.

Tony,

Sorry to hear it, sorry for your loss. It could happen to any of us, any day, so be careful out there. We're not meant to understand it I think, but may your God grant you some peace in the good memories you have.

Be well,
Lanway

Lanway, please may I thank you for your good thoughts, it seems now that the end for Erwin was a 240 volt water pump, I still dont know the full detail but to look a Erwin you would think a Tank would struggle to harm him, he had a very close family that always made me so welcome to be involved with, they worked hard and played hard and love anything yellow and made of iron, just the other month they came up to my local Steam Rally sort of mob handed all the men and all the sons, credit to them they also brought dozers scrapers etc and managed to leave a fair mark on the show ground site, it was a great time, so I am going to hang on to the memorys of this.

Again thank you for your post it is thought highly of. tctractors

Yair . . . tctactors. Yeah mate. We must always remember the good times.

I understand your grief . . . I lost a good mate to a borrowed welder.

It worked okay in the workshop but grabbed him when he touched it while they were working on a boat careened on a couple of feet of tidal mud.

They had it set up on a pallet on a tarp but he was barefoot when he went to wind some amps on standing in the mud.

Cheers.

My D6D in bits. 11070 original hours. Never been apart. RHS inner brg was gone but LHS was still ok and would have easily done another 2000+ hours. But being in this deep they were all going. So just a rebearing and swap gears side to side. New set of rollers and hopefully back to work soon. Was home made press gear to pull it off; but had the real stuff to press back on.036.jpg037.jpg038.jpg039.jpgDSC00514.jpg
last pic was her working ripping decomposed andesite rock 6 months ago; she did some hard work forestry roading plus dealing with stumps. Finals did fairly well.

Looks a good little job in hand Merv, dont forget to only use a welder to remove the bearings, is that 1 piece intermediate gears I see? oh and just a thought at this point I always pop out the E-Bar and build up the ends, then check for cracks and fit new rubber blocks to it as they are always worn out, the "Firm" (me by myself) have a few tractors in bits at the moment, I have a D8H with all the back case innards stripped down including the transmission into a heap of nuts and bolts, the top pinions out of the F/Drives with not even an oil pipe left in the case, I also have a LGP D4 in lots of parts F/Drive wise and a few swingers (excavators) looking a bit knackered as chunks of them are in bits, so things are good and still turning a coin, the good earner for me at this moment is Crushers, as I seem to have plenty of them around me that have had a good thrashing and need loads doing to them, plus the fact the owners dont understand how they should be running them, I think I have hit a Klondyke area, even the track chains (D5) seem to break easy as I get lots of link press jobs, I have a link and 5 bottom rollers to stuff in 1 on Tuesday so its onward and upward!

good bit of cribbing Merv. tctractors

Geez TC; your going to have to start cloning yourself to get through all your work :notworthy
Yes 1 piece pinion. Welded cups out, and cut cones with a cut off disc on a 4 inch grinder to get them off easily.
Put new rubber pads in the equaliser bar, and the track frame rubbers will go this week, along with the rollers and track adjuster seals.
Rollers on this machine had all the flanges trimmed back before I got it. They just fitted new chains to it at 7000hrs. and the rollers were original till now. they were absolutely stuffed. But were testimony to cat rollers as they were a full 30mm less in roller tread diameter than the new rollers !! :beatsme
These sheds and concrete floors are great things too mate; especially as us fellas get older. :D Just needs a 'skyhook' and it would be perfect. Maybe if and when I win the lottery. Sheds not mine belongs to a mate; im just lucky enough to squeeze into it.
cheers merv :drinkup

Shed, what Shed Merv, near all my jobs are in the "Big Shed" including the D8 transmission rebuild, those 1 chunk inter' gearsets are not the common thing to find now in the back ends of tractors, when I do find 1 it usualy puts me in a trance for a few min's of times past? oh and why do you need a shed? it is near always pissing with rain in the U.K. and I have to manage with a dirty towel, I cannot even say your location never mind spell it other than think its some Tropical hot spot that hardly gets rain in the morning then all afternoon like here, it all points to the fact that it must be crap in the U.K. the mechanics in the U.S. have service trucks with everything on board, in the U.K. I have a spot to put my Flask in and a few crap spanners in a dinky toolbox, I am 1 of the lucky sorts here anyhow to se you with all the comforts of Finning puts me feeling as sick as could be, I hope you know how lucky you are to have a tractor in bits under full cover and dont forget to check your tin guards on the sprocket as they are usualy worn out.

ohh; don,t worry TC we get rain, 40mm is last 24 hrs. I just don't like the stuff. waiting for rubber pads to arrive then into it 2moro. Yep have replaced the 3 tin gaurds over the duo cone seals. She was virginal inside, never been apart since birth, hence the one piece gear. so just turned them and they will see me out. Have always kept a eye on the preloads and oil changes. Have only ever run 50 oil in my finals. Plus with me driving, plus fixing and paying for it, helps to focus the mind how one operates machinery !! Cheers :drinkup
