Looking at buying a laser receiver to mount on excavator and/or finish dozer. It would not be used a lot, and would be my first machine mounted receiver. Am considering the Trimble CR600, Anyone have much experience with them?

I have one, and I like it. I use it for most of my hand work (layout/measuring) as the larger wrap around and cell length makes it easier than the standard receivers. I have a fill job coming up where I will likely run it upside down since it's offset for digging (larger portion of the cells below the marking line).

Well worth the money. If I get a laser grading attachment, I'll go with the LR50's most likely.

They are nice but really problematic, plan on buying at least 1per year if you use it much, look on ebay there are lots of 20-25 non working units all the time. Not a good sign in my book...... But do I buy them every time I need a new one? YES I do lol. I have several smaller ones but I don't care to use them after the cr600

I would suggest going with a LR50W or a LR60W. More of a machine receiver and The W come with a Remote Display that you can put in the cab with you.

The only problem with that is LR60 is 6 times the price. no exaggeration. 359 vs 2450

I use one on my mini for trenching and for setting grade on paver bases. I've owned it for a year, and have yet to have a malfunction with it. My only issue that I had was that there was very little room for the receiver on the stick with aux piping in place as well, which made it hard to set it where you needed it. Also, if I was digging in hard clay or rock, and did alot of bouncing around, the magnet would detach from the boom. I solved the problem for the mini by attaching a piece of 1 5/8" uni-strut to some 1/2" allthread rod that I welded to the boom. Now I attach it with the rod clamp, which is actually quite convenient, and I can switch from the rod to the machine without changing the base. Use caution on buying it on Ebay.....I had to fight with a guy by the name of Don Foster from Laser Grade in Missouri...not shipped, no tracking number, was shipped (NOT!) no tracking number.....having trouble his internet, blah, blah, blah. Finally called him on it, and he cursed me out, told me that "he must be a damned liar then!" and hung up on me. Ebay covered it, and I bought from L3sys on Ebay...a very easy transaction. Paid $358 with the rod and magnet mount
Lights are very bright, easy to see, simple to use. I never needed or wanted anything more.

Have used the cr 600 for almost 10 years now am on my second one and have found them to be very durable and water resistant. We have ran one on a boxblade in hard rain with no ill results. Great product.

If your going machine mount, go with a bullseye receiver, for hand work like layout and anything using a rod the cr600's are great, I've got about three of them we use daily, but if you machine mount them vibration takes it toll on them over time. I"m not sure how much you plan on using it, if your going machine controls in the future, I wouldn't go with the small hand held receiver like a 600, go with one designed for taking the abuse and vibration better. I used a 600 on one of my trenchers for years, looking back I wouldn't do it again, for about twice the money I could have gone with a bullseye and been far happier and have far less problems. When I put it on a machine, I"d spend about half its value every year to keep it going it seemed, with my bullseye's I've never spent of dime on them and had them for about six or seven years now, just an opinion do as you wish.
