Has anyone seen a rough terrain forklift made by Patrick using the chassis of the WWII Staghound armoured car? The turret was removed, and a commercial truck Cab Over Engine style superstructure installed near the front wheels.

A Staghound armoured car - that brings back memories - that was actually the first allied vechiles that entered my grandfathers city in 6th of May 1945. My grandfather was leading a resistance group of all most 600 people. I liked that Staghound(British name I think) armoured car. I saw a special forklift many years ago in Hope - very unusual but it got a WV cab. I think I took a pic of that way back in the 80's. I'll just have to find it just like my other pics.. ;-)

Here you see whats left of the plank road, they made it out of Hemlock that was there. It has not really stood the test of time time as it was logged in the late 30's. What is left of the road continues well up the hill behind where the truck sits. And the down hill part is really hard to find over in the Alders. There is also tack that there may be another truck and a steam donkey left out there in another valley. But that seams unlikely as we have opened up several blocks that way and have only found broken pieces of yarders.
Unbelievably they have found another truck . This is loaded just off the right of way of another road heading. Just found out about it yesterday so will go out next weekend and take some pictures. So if the truck is there like the rumors predicted just maybe the yarder is too. Port McNeill Div did find a complete steam donkey about a month ago that they are going to retrieve and display hopefully soon.

Looking forward to seeing the new pics. I used to hike up an old plank road from the Manning logging company - probably from the '20's or '30's - that was at the end of Stirling Arm on Sproat Lake. It went from the Alpulp pumphouse up to the top of 'summit' in Cous Division. It had the old strawline spiked on top of it for traction - it must have been a real bugger coming down that with a load on on a rainy day. They re-logged the area back in the '80s and so the lower part is probably obscured. I might take a gander up there in the future if time permits - the view of the upper Alberni Valley was quite spectacular from what I remember, when you got to the top.

I can not believe where they hauled from on those plank roads. Up where we are logging now we have haul road pitches of 25% and where the plank road went it looks like they were about 15% or better. No water on the brakes only four brake drums and mechanical brakes at that. No old bold Truck Drivers there.

The old plank road that I mentioned was also very steep - and I didn't see any wide spots to pass either. The inboard runner was cut right into the bank, whereas the outboard one was built up on a structure several feet in height. It was steep country and they just built this road right against the hill face. Up near the top where it started to flatten out was a collapsed trestle. Considering that most of the shore of Stirling Arm was logged with a big 'A' frame with a skidder on a massive float, this old road was a very rare thing to find. I always wondered how they got down these plank roads without going over. They must have had pretty strong legs from standing on the brakes.

I'm amazed at how much money in scrap metal is just sitting there. Around these parts, ALL of it some how would have been extracted and sent to the local scrap yard for some serious money.

That is not a popular topic here.

LOL! I can see why. It's just a shame to see all those machines just rotting away like old American Muscle cars do these days. It a shame, a shame I tell ya!

I'm in Eastern NC, about halfway up the coast. How about you?
