Hey all, I'm Gus, I grew up on a beef cattle farm in VT, that's where I got an appreciation of equipment. I work as an classic car restoration tech, frame and sheet metal fabrication and refurbishing are what I really enjoy. I've always been a full blooded motor-head, 4x4s(especially vintage stuff like Toyota LandCruisers), diesel cars and trucks(drive a Cummins powered Dodge 2500 and VW jetta TDI), heavy equipment, exotic/sports cars, motorcycles or what ever. I have minimal experience with construction equipment, I've ran a few excavators and used to own a International 500E crawler. This site has been a major source of information. I own some property in NH and some farm land over in VT; I plan on buying a backhoe within the next couple of months for drainage work, building retaining/boulder walls, site clearing and prep among other things.

Hello.

The first "Real" job I got was running a roller.
I quickly progressed to backhoe, excavator, gradall, and finally the blade.
The trouble is that this was in San Antonio Texas, home to cheap wages.
I was on layoff a few times, normal, and was told I should progress to law school.
For personal reasons I have never hunted in Texas, and never will, it would be an insult to try and make me go.
Other states are fine, just not Texas.
I think that the entire Texas cowboy thing is overrated, I am very much more a Mexican cowboy, do not like the anglo redneck type whatsoever.
I also avoid the gulf Arab, they are a pain in the butt to deal with.
And cops, not to say that there is anything wrong as such, just that I make it a point not to socialize with them.
But I do like machines, doing a good job with a good crew is something that makes me very happy.
I also like electronics, and as such have FCC licenses as well as from Canada (IC) and Mexico.

Aviation is a lot of fun for me also, I have access to several helicopters.
I feel the firefighters and EMT are the people on the front line and support them 100%.
So, if you are a down to earth blue collar kind of guy, or even a geek, we will get along just fine.

Hello,
I work at a midwest Steel mill where heavy equipment is part of the life blood of the process. I have experience with a lot of the equipment but not extensive on all. We have Mobil mag cranes, two mobile Hydro cranes a 23ton P&H and a 35ton Grove. Grad-all's, Lulls, Terex material handlers. Front end loaders; WA-500, 980 G, WA-250 (Two BIG Michigan's that I am unfamiliar with.) The list goes on from there with skidsteers and walk behinds and such.

My current position here puts me in charge of parts and service scheduling and a fair amount of hands on trouble shooting and work. I have also started Purchasing equipment for our company. The most recent was the WA-500 used.

I have 10 years in this industry starting from the Rail yard in the Locomotive, moving to production then 5years as a millwright to my current position now.

So that is about it for now I suppose.

I am completely new to the heavy equipment stuff. We bought some land in NW GA and we just bought a 753 bobcat to try to clear some trees and get to where we can build there. It will not be the fastest way with us doing it but I think it will be fun. We have a big grappel rake and a tooth bucket so far. I've got a lot to learn and probably need a lot of money to spend on other attachments/toys to get it to where we want it.

Hey everybody. I'm from the Southern suburbs of Buffalo,NY and growing up I was always around some type of machine/farm equipment. Heavy Equipment has always fascinated me and kept me interested in the field. I also have a CDL-A with all the endorsements and have pulled just about every trailer except for a "reefer". Kenworth, Peterbilts, Freightliners, and Internationals are what I have driven over the years some with Cats, Cummins, Detroits, and even Mercedes Benz engines. As far as heavy equipment goes I have never operated any mega machines just a JD 650, Komatsu D41E, Cat D5 (dozers) Case 580SM, JD 310D, Ford??? (backhoes) JD 490, Cat??? Komatsu mid and mini with grapples (excavators) Cat 232, Case??? (skidsteers). My current job is just Public Works and pretty much a medium sized operation. I drive a Freightliner dump with a 20 ton equipment hauler and have access to a Case 580SM backhoe, Komatsu D41E bulldozer, Komatsu mid and mini trackhoes, and a Cat 232 skidsteeer. Sorry to ramble fellas.

Hi, im from the south coast of Mexico, I have a tow truck concession from the federal goverment, and because in my country the word "gruas" is used both for tow trucks and cranes, people started to ask me for industrial cranes, that was 25 years ago, now I have a Grove tm250 1969 and two titan one 7 ton and another of 9 tons. I Found your forum on google when I was searching for boom removal, I would like to post about the manouvers we do around here and the equipment we have. Thank you for all your help.:D

Hey All: Call me Bill or Oldseabee, only been on this forum a short while. One of the best I've seen. My history: 24 years with Clark Equipment, Welder, Product Development Lab for forestry equip. in St Thomas Ont. Canada, built and field tested logging equp from North Saskatchawan, North Ontario to Louisiana swamps. then, Loader/rubbertired dozer Lab in Benton Harbor Mich., then Michigan 675 (24 yard loader) project, then District Service Rep in southwest, based in Texas, then Atlanta as Forestry specialist for US and service rep for South east. Clark bought Euclid and partnered with Volvo to make VME.
17 years in Navy Seabee's reserve as mechanic, Desert Storm Vet. Then 9 years with Bell Equipment North America as National Service manager. Bell out of South Africa built three wheel and tracked Feller Bunchers and articulated dump trucks and Built trucks for John Deere. Now retired and like to share some of that experience with others in the industry. I have kept my old service manuals on the Clark, Euclid, Ranger skidder,Volvo loaders and trucks, and Bell logging and trucks. I'm out of breath!!!!!!!!

Hello
I'm the guy that everyone hates. I've never operated a backhoe or dozer, but have a Case 530 split in the garage and have a Fiat Allis 11B on the way this weekend (yeah, that one needs work, too. Anyone have clutches laying around ;) ) So, I'll probably have a lot of questions. I figured this was the place to get answers. Thanks in advance.

Jim
