    D6H trans oil level

I removed the trans pump so I could take it apart and see what shape its in. There is some scuffs on the flat plates of the scavenge section that I can see but feel smooth when I drag my fingernail across it. I slipped a .010 feeler gauge between the gears teeth where they mesh together. That...

    D6H trans oil level

Jake980, Thanks for the helpful info. I don't notice any problems like loss of power or the trans slipping, it runs good. It is noisy like a howling sound though. I would think everything was ok if it wasn't for the oil level issue and high temp reading on the gauge. Maybe I should follow one...

    D6H trans oil level

thought of some more stuff - installed temp guages recently, so I don't know if it was running hot before that. - Cut open and inspected the trans filter this week, found a few dark specs so small i could barely see them and some small yellow flakes, paint maybe? looked clean other than that...

    D6H trans oil level

Thanks for the replies. Some additional info. It runs fine except after an hour or two the powertrain oil temp starts to climb towards 250-260 degrees. The temp returns to around 200 real quick in neutral. The temp jumps right back up in first gear when I run it back and forth with the blade...

    D6H trans oil level

my D6H ser#4RC1088 trans oil level is doing something odd. after it sits unused for a couple days the oil level on the dipstick, cold oil and engine off, is way low, about 4 gallons or so. When I start it up and get it to operating temp its within the high and low marks for engine at low idle...

    963 hydro leaking internally?

I had a similar problem on my 963, we pulled it apart and replaced the seals on the shaft, put it back together and it worked for awhile then it was leaking again. Turns out the there was an updated shaft that had an additional seal, we installed it and that fixed it. Can't recall my exact...

20 ton tag with broken leaf spring

I got a 97 eager beaver 20 ton tag trailer with hutch 9700 leaf spring suspension, the back right spring has 2 of the 7 leafs broke so I'm going to replace it. Any advice on what I'm in for as far as fixing it? Should i replace both springs on that axle and can I reuse the ubolts, etc? I haul...

Installing planetary shafts in final drives?

How do you install the planetary gear shafts in a D6H (or similar) final drive carrier? The book says lower the temp of the shaft and press into the carrier to the retainer to set the preload on the bearings. I would like to know how tight they fit? Can they be knocked in with a sledge? Or how...

What to do to start a sitting dozer

    D6H scavenge pump failing?

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! I put in a new temp switch in today and when I started it up no filter bypass alarm. Woop! I found some damage to the wiring harness and the guard that encloses the pump drive shaft had cracked all the way across on the bottom. I welded up the guard...

    D6H scavenge pump failing?

Nige, Thanks for the reply and the info. I didn't know about the temp switch, it looks like its located in the end of the charge pump. I unplugged the pigtail and put a jumper wire across the harness side contacts and the alarm turns off. I will have to test the temp switch out to see if its...
