    Cat 299C Coolant Change

CM1995, thanks for that. Yes, I agree with using the Cat ELC. I've already bought it and just wanted to make sure I could get as much of the old coolant out as possible. From what I gather, the petcock location will drain all the fluid. I bought the machine used and was told it was serviced /...

    Cat 299C Coolant Change

Nige, thank you for your response. I do have the O&M Manual (I think that is where I read about the petcock). I tried turning it by hand but given it is a long reach, I couldn't get it to turn. Guess I'll grind a slot into an old socket and slip it over the tee handle. Thanks for confirming it...

    Cat 299C Coolant Change

Looking to change the coolant in my 299C. I've done several searches and I'm having trouble finding much info on where to drain. There is a petcock on the right side of the block above the oil filter that is on extremely tight (is this a left hand thread by chance?). Any brass plugs lower on the...

2008 CAT 262C Alarms in Reverse/parking brake on

Kevin - FYI, I installed a new joystick base today and the machine is now working. Hope it solves your issue as well.

Cat 299C Park Brake won't release

Thought I share an update - the Cat is working again! Thanks for the help getting this one figured out! I installed a new left joystick base today, plugged it in and started it up. The machine ran like new again. I had read where I may need to get the new joystick base calibrated, but I did not.

2008 CAT 262C Alarms in Reverse/parking brake on

FYI - I'm dealing with similar issues on a 299C at the moment. Took the base out, cleaned it up (wasn't that bad as I have a cab machine) and it did not fix the issue. Hope you have better luck! I have ordered a new left joystick base and will see if that fixes my issue. I highly recommend the...

Cat 299C Park Brake won't release

Nige, thanks for that; I actually have the electrical schematic. Looking at it, the power circuit (126-CH24 PK-16) feeding the left joystick goes from fuse #9 thru connector #23. I can't find where connector #23 is located as it doesn't come up on the machine location diagram. Any help here much...

Cat 299C Park Brake won't release

Thought I'd share an update - I bought the optional display (part number 346-6336) that Nige referenced above and got it installed today. Turns out it was plug and play. I was able to enter the service mode and have two active codes (2474-3 and 2476-3). Had a couple of logged codes as well...

Cat 299C Park Brake won't release

Park Brake won't release when pushing the park brake switch. The diamond with ! flashes. The door, seat and armrest switches are working and the lift arms and bucket hydraulics will activate but the park brake won't release. I believe it is either the switch, the park brake solenoid, or the...

299C Main Drive Motor Hydraulic Connections

Although image 5 in the linked thread above is a bit tough to follow the hoses, it appears to confirm what I outlined above. Thank you for the reply post! Will post the outcome...

299C Main Drive Motor Hydraulic Connections

Currently in the process of changing the right side hydraulic drive motor hoses. I want to make sure I hook them up correctly. Have found a diagram that shows the connections on the pump end (top front is forward, bottom front is reverse). Can't find a diagram for the drive motor end. Can anyone...

CAT 299C track coming off rear idler

Okay, thanks for the reply! I don't think I have that option. Sounds like the key is to insert a board in between the track and the sprocket to compress the grease tensioner fully to get the maximum amount of slack so the track is easier to manage.

CAT 299C track coming off rear idler

Can you explain how to 'put controls in #2'? Sounds like this allows you to turn one track but not the other?

    Cat 299C Roof Sealant

The skylight is a solid sheet of plastic. I cleaned it all the way down to the bare plastic on the skylight and painted metal on the roof (was clean as a whistle). I did not use any primers on either surface. The plastic skylight pulled away from the fresh sealant I had installed a couple weeks...

    Cat 299C Roof Sealant

Yes, the plastic roof panel (which I understand is polycarbonate) is a genuine Cat part with the roughened band around the perimeter. Looks like Sikaflex has multiple sealants - is there a particular one that you've found to work best for this application? I called the local dealer and the lady...
