    Cat 312 final drive issue

Everything is back together. Four of the five seals were gone. Travel works perfectly now and the weird feeling when swinging and booming up is gone. Runs like a new machine. Thanks for all the suggestions and advice!

    Cat 312 final drive issue

I bought the seals and some hydraulic fluid. I have everything disconnected and hoping to have time tomorrow to reseal and reinstall. Will update soon. Thanks again to everyone... fingers crossed.

    Cat 312 final drive issue

Looks like I messed up my reply above. I am anxious to reseal it. I was pulling stumps yesterday and within a short period of time, the machine was not as responsive as it normally is. Particularly when swinging and raising the boom. I told my son, it’s almost as if some seals let go and have...

    Cat 312 final drive issue

Thanks for the replies! I hope to have time in two weeks to reseal the swivel. For some reason, I've always referred to it as the rotary manifold. I will report back with the results. Cheers!

    Cat 312 final drive issue

Ok... I can see how depending on the way they are stacked, it could cause my issue. This has one lever/foot pedal for each track.

    1995 Caterpillar 312 A/C box replacement

I had thought of that but ultimately didn’t want them dangling and upon further inspection the plastic bushings were shot. Mice had eaten the rubber off the louver doors etc.. so I made the decision to cut the shafts. I set it so the door to allow heat to your feet is gone.

    Cat 312 final drive issue

1995 Cat 312 SN: 6BL00906 When I track forward or reverse the machine could push a mountain over. Plenty of speed etc... The problem is if I try to turn or try to move one track at a time, it basically falls on it's face. It doesn't stall the engine, it almost seems like fluid is bypassing...

    1995 Caterpillar 312 A/C box replacement

Long story made short.... heyMccall gave me the little nugget of info I needed. I ended up removing all servo motors and cutting the shafts off that go to the louvers. I then reinstalled the servo motors. Now when you turn the key on, everything cycles and the keypad no longer locks out. I set...

    1995 Caterpillar 312 A/C box replacement

I just bought a nice 1995 312 Cat excavator. SN: 6BL00906 It has 4600 hours and was well maintained by the original owner. The issue I have is the A/C box that is mounted to the floor behind the operators seat. I vacuumed the interior of the box to clean it out and found linkage parts that...

I didn’t think to play around with the different modes. I’ll give that a try to see if it changes. Thanks.

No it wasn’t. I think that I wasn’t really close to bottoming.

2000 Cat 312BL Looking to buy, has hydraulic "hiccup" VIDEO

I am interested in buying this 2000 312. The owner was gracious enough to let me try it out which says a lot about the machine. One owner and in very good condition. I felt something strange and then figured out what it was and I am able to repeat it. Doesn't do it every time but probably 7...
