Skyjack wheels turn but won’t drive or lift

I have a skyjack 3220. Nothing worked. I replaced the joystick with a brand new one. Now the wheels will turn in either direction, but it will not move forwards or backwards in slow or fast speed. It also will not raise the platform. However the platform can be raised manually with the emergency switch.

Anyone run into this issue before?

I had that happen on one where I was given the wrong joystick to install. With the wrong one on only steer worked. The correct joystick and the wrong one looked exactly the same just a different part number. Not saying that is your issue but may be worth checking into.

Also make sure the charger isn’t plugged in while your trying to operate it

First thing is do is you have ground controls ? If you have ground controls start here. Take your control box and plug apart or both sides. These connection point are 99% of the issues on most skyjacks. Check very carefully for loose, broken or very corrode wires on both sides. Usually when its an electrical issue on a skyjack its here. Leave it unscrewed and pulled out of the housing on both sides until you get it working. You will need to test voltages on both sides multiple times. If both sides are good up stairs take your box and plug it in to the bottom connection and bypass the scissor stack cable. If it works then your problem is in the stack cable. If it does not work you need to plug your box back in upstairs and remove the screws again and get your meter out. You got power going in since you got some function. There is a ground lug in the box that is used for the main ground. Use this ground for all your testing. Check that your getting voltage through the joy stick card to the control box plug then make sure it flows through the 16 or 24 pin connection ( could be either style depending on options ) on both sides for each function. I would start with the control box plug first. 9 out of 10 times the problem is right there.

Thank you for this reply! I plugged the control box into the connector at the bottom and same thing. Can only turn the wheels. So this must mean it’s a problem inside the control box. So far all wires look good. No broken wires or loose connections. I have continuity all the way through.

maybe it’s a burned out diode?

Jeff mentioned it could be a slightly different part number in the joystick which may be the case.

Could be but both yours are C-techs and they change regularly as you can see by the revision numbers on the tags. They update designs based on suppliers, quality and so pretty regularly. I have had great results with c-tech products. You can call c-tech and ask them, it is possible. The machine did not work before you changed sticks correct ? I would check the toggle switch for the lift/drive function inside the box first. The steering function uses its own two micro switches independent of lift/drive that is depend on that particular toggle switch to power up the coils for either lift or drive on the function manifold. I would not suspect a failed diode since you don't have either function. Each function has its own separate wiring, relay etc depending on what side of the switch is active. Check that toggle switch first make sure its getting power and is switching power between functions.
