No, no Grizzly's in my toy box. We'll have to see what Cory does with it. I might have to build a model of what he ends up with.

There is one in town, not too far from my house, well it was here about a year ago getting a rebuild, this weekend I will go for a drive and see if it is still there. Looking through the photobucket link I don't see a photo of it, if it is around I will go knock on their door and see if they will let me take a picture or two...

Hey Reg

Art Bobrik (sorry if I misspelled) has one just up in Sayward that he is rebuilding. It is right across from the dryland sort in Kelsey Bay.
He has been rebuilding it for years.

You could always sneak up there for a look.

I believe that this is Art's truck...I met him at the Alberni truck show just over a year ago.He has owned it since new...Major rebuild on it with a new aluminum hood and stainless floor and box..

I actually met quite a few forum members at the show...Was a good weekend.

This is the big 9 passenger truck that was built..I believe it to be the only one done..Ran around painted green for a long time in the Lower mainland and was purchased by a company in Whistler BC where it still lives..Current pictures were taken a year ago...Notice the grille work has been changed since the early ones..

So....Who says there are no Grizzlys on Vancouver Island....here is another one. This one sitting in a compound in plain view in Qualicum..I have spoken to the owner and he says he has most of the spare Grizzly parts that were lying around when the doors shut for the last time.

This truck was originally ordered by a women..It has a 5spd,4 wheel disc brakes and a exhaust brake..Truck needs a restoration.
Owner also knows of 2 other Grizzlys in Qualicum both owned by one guy..I believe one of them is the very last truck built.I have heard they are in good shape.

Pictures were taken last year and the truck still lives there,,

diamondtguy The interior kit you speak of was made by John over at Quality Industrial Trimmers at 215 2nd Ave E in downtown Vancouver. He is the go to guy for all that He made the padded interior kits for Hayes and Pacific as well as the cardboard ones. He still cranks out the odd one for any of the guys doing a resto. I will only use him because I have never seen one made by him that did not fit perfectly every time. The guy is RCP57 of the upholstery world. (Little shot there Reg LOL)

Cool....I think it was my reading all the info on this site that lead me to that assumption. If he is still around it would only take a phone call to find out if he did the Grizzly trim....

So here is another Vancouver Island Grizzly.I think the proud owner is a friend of HDX's.I don't know a bloody thing about the truck but It is my favorite of all the trucks I have found..To me it just looks good....Picture were found while doing my research..

Yair . . .

Dunno fellers, there is something I am missing.

(To my eyes) they are way out west of "pretty" and some of them look like overgrown pickups . . . what exactly was their purpose/market?

Cheers.

Scrub

They were more for the west coast of Canada logging market.
They were built "Logger" tough.

Loggers are hard on equipment, I know this first hand, I'm a mechanic.

At the time they were built, many of us in the industry were more then a little pissed at the choices for pickups

You really need to understand the logger mentality. Have a tank of fuel, a Bunch of left over cable, blocks and rigging, saws, gas and what ever else they think they might need in the back of a truck.
Than you drive like you stole it, up the side of the mountain.

During the course of the day, you might have to tie one of the cables from the yarder on to the back of the truck and pull several thousand feet of cable off and respool it on to the drum.
You might need to take a grapple with you, so just throw that in the back.

Now take all of that and put it into a remote inlet where you might get your freight once every two weeks.

So build a truck that is both tough and easy to repair with parts that might already be in your camp.

Such a good idea. Just too bad it did not happen.

wornout wrench. Gotcha mate and thanks.

So to some extent I was right, a pickup built out of bits of full sized trucks . . . now I understand the (probably tongue in cheek) ruminations about the sweet sixteen Jimmy.

It was a straight forward common sense concept and from your explanation I can understand the thought process that spawned it.

I will watch this thread with interest.

Cheers.

wornout wrench you hit the nail right on the head ROFL , the same guy that destroyed a pickup would then complain because he had to drive junk . The Grizzly pickup is like the Challenger Logging Truck , 30 years to late .

I would love to have a grizzly. Have wanted one for years but with only so many ever being built, it is just not going to happen.

To get one of these babies, get all fixed up, nice little diesel purring under the hood. Hitch up a nice size 5th wheel and do the snowbird thing when I retire.

Can you just imagine the looks one would get when you pulled into the RV park in one of the southern states.:jawdrop
