Good ratchet straps

OK< I have had a few older ratchet straps I been using for a while now, there nice HD straps,
I been looking for some new one's, and WOW< seems like all the new one's are so cheesy looking as to the older one's I have, the straps are like a fraction as thick and the ratchets are also made of thin metal as to what I have
anyone have any suggestions on what brand, where to buy some good one's??
I use them for a lot of different things from small-ish atv's to some larger tractor implements and trucks at times, when I DON"T need a chain breaker type deal
anyone have any suggestions

Find a rigging shop, they will have proper ratchet straps along with the binders, shackles, wire rope, etc. Be prepared to pay for quality and like your old ones they will last a long time. Truck dealers and accessory shops also will usually have them for securing flatbed loads with either hooks or rail clips on the ends.

thanks, thats what I was thinking, BUT after spending some time looking online, all I see are the same junky one's I see in local tractor supply stores, cheesy made, YES they have a good LB rating,. BUT man they are NOTHING like what my old ones
don't mind paying for quality, just cannot find any really to buy ??
Have to dig a little deeper I guess to find a shop near by that has some
IF anyone can recommend a brand, please do
and save me some time looking, would be much appreciated too

The ones that actually have the DOT/WLL stamp on them are better made. I can't think of the brand of 2" at work but USCargocontrol is one I can think of, I used their four inch ratchet straps, they worked out nice. Good Luck

Our straps here are identical, except they are required to have a safety link on the hooks.

thanks for the links, BUT I have a few of these and there not the same as my older one's, that strap material on my older one's is like twice as thick, and that I guess is what I am looking for.
maybe the newer one's , just have same strength as my older one's, but don't need to have as thick of a strap?
I like the look and feel of the older one's , as they just seem like they take more abuse.
the newer one's, with the thinner strap, seem to get damaged a LOT faster?
I guess like most things today, they just don't make things like they used to?

I noticed a change a few years back when I was still strapping loads on trailers, the straps that fit the strap winches suddenly were half the thickness of what I was used to. Same load rating, and yes they do get damaged easier, but the truckers seemed to like them because they were lighter, easier to handle, and took up less storage space. Probably carried over to the ratchet world. I think what you're looking for is out there, just need to keep digging....

Thanks, I too think its just a change of times more or less
everyone has the same things it seems , this straps, BUT still the same ratings
but for sure NOT as durable
I can see how they take up less space too
I will keep looking, as I know, straps have a expiration date on them more or less as the straps age and get brittle or cured down from UV and such
I again, just guess I miss the HD one's I have and gather few still make them
will keep looking and see, as again, DON't mind paying a little more to get what I want and what I THINK will last longer ,
Part of getting old I gather, set in the older ways and slow to change ! HAHA!

I found a pair of 1" heavy straps with well built ratchets on the side of the road 10+ years ago and have been looking for another identical pair ever since. They are perfect for the back of the pickup.

I just dont trust a paper thin strap. Even the metal is all tin.

Ancra used to make top shelf stuff.

I too have had them cheap handles bend on me over the yrs on some of the smaller one's I use for the atv's

that's kinda my view here, seems like modern one's are just NOT made to last long or, anything like the old one's were, well the GOOD old one's were >?

I sold Kinnedyne and Ancra .. They were a good quality strap .. Erickson and others make a Legal strap but they seem to be much thinner and they have more stretch to them ..

I just think they stopped making the one's I'm looking for, the strap on mine is about 3/16's inch thick, as to these thin straps today,
as I said the NEW one's have same weight rating, they just feel CHEAP to me, and they get damaged a LOT easier
and the ratchet part is real Metal, that doesn't bend easy LOL

HAHA. I went by the welding store today and they had some Lift All straps. The ratchet looked pretty good but I see what you mean about the straps. I need some new ones also and hate to order online because you dont know what youre going to get till its too late. Good Luck.

I know what you guys are talking about on the new straps. The new ones are all crap it seems like. The only thing I like better about the new thinner strap is that is the cut ends get frayed, its still easy to get through the ratchet drum, unlike the old fat ones that you'd have to fight with a flat screwdriver or something to push it through.

The best source I have found for good ones is the shoulder of the road. Best price too.

HAHA< I find a lot of things on the side of the road, last yr alone I got about 6-7 chain binders
Nothing but haul trucks run thru my next town, always loosing crap, as there in a hurry, more loads a day they run, more they make, so they get sloppy, and I make out! HAHA!

ON straps and fighting to re tread them
on many of mine I found if I tie a knot on the end they never pull thru again, and never have to fight them!
loose about 6 inches or so of strap to do so, but saves me in time spent cursing!
learned this trick when I used to hang a lot fo tree stands and be one arm hanging at 25+ ft, and then end up dropping a ratchet due to a strap pulling thru, so, knots it is now on all them, and some of the others too!
