What are your allowable axle weights? I am trying to figure how you get to 130K without a 20K front axle.

My heavy haul I can gross 126,725#, and net 90K payload. axle weights 20K steer, 46,725 drives, 60K trailer with 2 rows of 8 on 5'9" centers

That is one nasty site there but good job getting all the tree limbs picked out of that mess. It looks well cleared now. Guess the fun begins dealing with that soil if it's getting built on.

That grinder sure is heavy at 87000! Still love that Pete and the Eager Beaver too. I am surprised y'all didn't get a tri axle with those weights but then again I see it does end dump duty a lot too and that might be the reason?

I know you might have posted this before but I am fascinated by your trucks and trucks in general really. Isn't that Pete a 2014 since y'all just got it? engine and trans? Also what year, engine, and trans on the KW dump? It is a W900 and not a W900L right?

Hey Fastdirt,

Yes that was nasty little job. Finished it up today. We just have to haul the mulch out now. We just did the clearing so we are not going to do the muck and fill.

The grinder is heavy and the way the trailer flexes, you would think it is the whole 50 ton capacity. A tri-axle would be nice for the grinder but we go in so many tight areas especially with the dump trailer.

Now for a quick rundown on the trucks and their specs. The Pete is a 2015 with an 18 speed and 4:10 rears and the motor is a Paccar. My brother loves it and says it is so much better than the Cummins in the truck that got wrecked. We have 2 tri-axles dump, one w900 and one w900L. The 900L is the truck I drive when we need it. We got it new in 2002, 20K fronts, 46 rears 4:30 rear ends, an 18 speed and a 500hp kitty Cat. The w900 is the same spec other than a 475 instead of the 500 and it has 4:10 rear ends. The little Pete has a 10 speed and a 300hp Paccar motor.

We move it on Saturdays;) to be legal we would need a tria-axle truck.

Even better on the KW's having big block pre emissions single turbo Cats. Being a W900L makes it that much better. All great stuff on those specs of the trucks. But the greatest thing could be that the KW's are 6NZ Cats. They were put in 2001's and 2002's. The most sought after Cat engine going. Most of the glider kits use them. As long as they are 475's they are good for up to 1000HP too. 475 is the 550 just a different ecm file 90% of the time. There is a guy in Charlotte who knows his stuff on those Cats. He flashed mine to 600HP.. not that you want that but he's there. ...and that low rear end ratio w an 18 speed. Somebody really knows how to spec them. Wouldn't change a thing. I agree the T880 is not a good looking truck. That's why I love the 379/389 and W900l. They are timeless and classic looking. Why change such a great thing. Glad they are still available amongst all the ant eater trucks.

First, I just read thru this entire thread. Very impressive and nice work especially the grading on that parking lot!

What model is the little Pete? 337? Got any Pics ? I have a Pete 337 on order and should be built this week. How do you like it?

Thanks earthmover. Go to page 36 and there is a pic of the little Pete. It is a 337. It has been a good little truck. I am not a fan of the motor. It is a Paccar but it really is a Cummins. There is nothing wrong with it, it is just my preference for Cat motors. We have had no trouble out of it.

Good luck on your truck and don't be afraid to post some pics.

I am also glad that KW and Pete have kept the classics. There are other trucks that look good but like you said, those classic lines. I think we spec our trucks heavier than anybody around here. We went to Maine to get the tractor because it had 46 rears. Hard to find anything more than a 40 down south.

Must have missed that page but that's a nice truck! Is it the PX7 or PX9? I ordered mine with the PX9 with 300 HP but I spec'ed it with the Allison Trans. This is my first truck with an automatic I figured I would try it.

I will post pics when it comes in!

Personally I love the Allison auto's. Had a Mack Granite MP7 425 with an Allison - that truck was a beast.

We got the PX9 with 300hp. I must admit I have never driven an automatic so I can't give any good input on it. What rear end ratio did you get?

CM, how did the automatic do in the dirt? Clay is different than sand but I am curious just the same.

Landclearer- its got a 5.25 rear ratio

CM- I know in my area automatics have been getting very popular. I've talked to a lot of other guys and they love them.

LC the auto did great as an on site dirt shuffler in our soils. The area here is a typical heavy traffic congested suburban/urban area. The ease of operation in stop and go traffic is the real difference, for me anyway.

I could put an inexperience gear shifter but a knowledgeable operator in the truck and move dirt on site without any damage to the truck - guys that know how to run equipment but had no truck experience.

For the record, I wouldn't buy another heavy truck without an Allison auto, that's my preference.

I much prefer the true torque converter automatics much better than any of the AMT's Automated manual Transmissions. That use a clutch have been nothing but a giant pain in the rear

Thanks CM for the info. The reason I asked was because I have seen a few trucks with autos do real good in the sand and I have seen some do incredibly bad. I guess it all depends on how the rest of the truck is set up.

As usual, I worked on more than one job this week. We move the feller buncher into the next storage building job and started cutting it, dug a pool the next day and finished the week with some fine grading for asphalt.

Here is what it looked like at 9:30 then again at 4:30.

We had a brand new 160 Deere for a demo on the pool dig.

Here are a couple pics of the fine grading for asphalt. They are supposed to pave tomorrow but I do not know with the weather. They say we are going to have rain every day this week.

Nice work as usual, how did you like the 160 Deere? It's nice not having a thumb when all you have to do is sling dirt.

The dealer where I bought all my stuff from just started carrying Deere this past week. He called me and was teasing with me with a brand new Deere 160 with the plastic on the seat but I already promised Cat I would rent the 312E. The Deere looks good. I see they still put them out with the chrome pipes which is kinda cool.

Nice looking work pics, all of them. Funny how work pics are from the cab or of an empty machine from getting out to take the pic. Wish there was a camera guy to get action.
Pool looks great. You are getting a lot of those lately. Looks like they are amenity pools. You got it made, thanks for posting!!!

The 160 was really nice. It was quick and smooth. It had good power but only had a 36 inch bucket but it did have the long stick. Yes there is nothing better than digging with no thumb and no coupler but we gotta have them.
