Hi. I'm new to this forum so im sorry if i post this wrong. I have a problem with my excavator. I have a Kobelco sk200lc mark IV with the S/N yqu3191. The problem initially started with the machine getting hard to start and it seemed like after sitting and running rough for a minute it would then warm up and run somewhat normal. After starting the machine one morning i noticed a burning smell and noticed that the fuel pump sylanoid was smoking. I figured that was the reason that it was acting up before. i replaced that and it was still doing the same thing. we managed to get it onto the trailer and brought it back to the shop where we unloaded it and i sat for about a week and when i last went out to start it i had nothing when i turned the key. after messing with it a while the computer finally came on when i turned the key and read s/m failure. Im not sure where to start with it, i hear that a harness is known for going bad but im not sure. i figured i would ask for some advice before i try anything else. Your help is greatly appreciated!

hi,
i do believe that your engine has the inline fuel injection pump. the fuel shut-off solenoid incorporates a rod and eye.
these solenoids must be reinstalled 100% proper or they will not last long at all. they're not cheap either.
the solenoid is dual - pull coil and hold coil. the rod length has to be right to ensure the pull opens fuel fully and that once it has opened the hold coil powers on
and the pull coil turns off.
there is a 30amp inline fuse for this circuit located inbehind the cab seat near the floor of the cab underneath the humped channel that stores the travel levers when they are removed by operator.
as far as the s/m fail code...
it can mean exactly as it states that the stepper mtr that controls the eng throttle has failed.
could be bad wiring in the circuit, coil A or B, or limit switch
could be as well your batteries are way down or kaput for these codes run on voltage signals and the elec system has to be 18+ volts to function properly.
before going to far check your battery cell levels, specific gravity, voltage, load test, battery cable conn, alternator charging 27-28volts at wot
**** please note:
do NOT force the stepper governor mtr when power is on,...you will fry the computer...this will become quite costly for you!
batteries are qty. 2 of 4D-1010
send me e-mail at " [email protected] "
i'll send you some info.

yes, there would be various differences between these machines for they are built for their particular region sold to operate.
differences such as hyd pumps, engine emmissions and safety to be met as that region would call for.
this is why i always request the machine model, serial number, engine manufacturer, if equipped with a turbo or not, engine serial number, hydraulic pump manufacturers tag numbers, etc... the more info the better, component tag info, part numbers stamped into a specific component,
this makes my job easier to aid in locating parts and/or in troubleshooting and isolating a problem with a machine.
digital pictures taken of the machine, in the cab, hyd pump compartment, engine, hyd main control valve etc...
are a thousand words...
if you do require my help please e-mail as much as possible as mentioned above to " [email protected] "
i can then see what i can do to help!
cheers!

It feels like the gears catch somtimes well. I need to find someone eho is faliliar with this machine and get it repaired. It only has 3500 hours. Im located in Southern Idaho.

hi joshua23 i had a similar issue with my kobelco sk200lc and it turned out there is a service bulletin/ recall on the stepper motor with that machine and the dealer replaced it. if i can find the service bulletin ill send it to you so you have somewhere to start looking.

i had a similar issue like 5 years ago and it was very intermittent but just this year it came back and killed the machine completely. i ended up finding the starter solenoid was shorted out and replaced it for about $45 and the machine has worked since. its behind the seat in the cab under the cover behind the seat near the cpu.

hi,
if you have not inspected already,...
check the ring at the bottom of the swing tower to where the swing gear reduction unit fastens too.
i have had a couple units where the welds fastening this ring to the upper platform had cracked in the unit is loose, i had one where the swing quit for the slewing gear was
now allowing the swing tower to climb untop and it just sat untop gears not meshing.
also, make sure the slew sump is drained off of all foreign water, etc... and remove the upper grease inspection oval fill plate and add grease moly ep2
inbetween gears no more than 1/2 way up tooth and top spatcheling by hand 4-5 teeth at a time all the way round 360 degrees.
the grease zirk see visually outside on turntable is for the swing bearing only ep2 grease one shot at 4 points every 500 hours.
do not over grease!
cheers!

Hi Mr. Kobelco, I have a 1998 SK130LC Mark iv serial #YPU2379. I have broke the outer race for the slewing ring. I think I have found an after market ring. (complete unit) Are the after market units the same as the o.e.m. units or are they a universal fit? After there any connections that are inside the slewing ring that have to be disconnected? I know the hyd. swivel is in there, but I'm not sure how it is connected. Any help you can give me will be deeply apperciated. This is the first time in changing anything like this. Thank You in advance for Your help.

Muddog,
I'll send you a pm about our brand of slewing rings for your machine.
Bolts for the upper frame come out, bolts for lower frame. Disconnect hoses and undeck. It's a chore. If you don't have a service manual I am sure Adam can help you with detailed steps.
