well im tired of paying for moves, i can haul everything but our shovel and have been looking for a heavy spec tag mostly bws and felling
air tilts , i have a line on an 03 well used bws 20T air tilt w/ air ramps for 8k needs paint ,,tires /brakes are 50%, and a 04 25t bws air tilt/ ramps basically never used by orig owner 11k problem im having is the third axle and extra weight /length of the larger trailer its over 15k empty  (probably why it wasn't used much)

any advise on these two trailers and my concerns, my dump is 20k empty with a smaller 300hp cat 8ll , NOT a power house :( but its it is what it is

what would a regular non tilt 20t say eager beaver or rogers weight empty?

My non tilt 20 ton Eager Beaver weighs about 9K. The plate lists 40,000 capacity and about 48,890 GVW. My truck has a 350hp Cummins with the 8ll, it pulls and stops just fine. I would be more concerned about being over your registered weight than whether or not the truck will move it.

thanks for the reply tbone, i spoke with bws and the trailer is 12,000 lbs so that is more like it ,there 20 ton is 10k, , the gcvw rating is what your talking about correct? im not sure what it is on my fl80 its reg to 53k and the trailer has 3 22,500k axles

I don't know how Ct. does it but in PA i paid one fee for my trailer, $125 for a permanent registration. There is no weight assigned to the trailer. My truck is registered for 54,999 to avoid road tax. The last time I had the truck across a scale empty I was 24,800. I just round and say truck is 25,000 and trailer is 10,000. My total unladen weight is 35,000 giving me the ability to carry a 20,000 machine. I am right at this with my cat 267B and Deere 50. I could register for 68,000 but it would cost an additional $750/yr and very rarely do I need to have more capacity. Your truck title should give you a GCVW.

One time I had 30,000 of 2A in the dump and the trailer with the skid loader. I grossed at close to 75,000 and the truck handled it just fine. Now if the caught me or if there was an accident I would have been screwed. It isn't worth doing and it was the only time i did something this dumb.

For your case if CT. works the same as PA. Assuming your FL80 weighs 20,000 empty and you have a 20T trailer that weighs 10,000 empty you would only be able to carry a machine weighing 23,000 pounds. Of course take fuel level, chains, binders, and mud into consideration and it is safer to say 20,000. So you have 10T of capacity on the trailer that you can't do anything with.

can do anything with because of the truck?

sorry, kinda confused  the truck weights 20k empty its spec at 33k with a tag of 20k to be reg at 53k gvw, the trailer weights 12k and has three 22500k axles so 67500 gvw with out the tounge weight factored in

Is your truck a single or tandem? The weights seem a little low for a tandem.

In PA you would need a Tri-axle dump to move that. Have to pay road tax and overweight to get you to 73,280

Machine 34,000 Trailer 12,000 truck about 24,000. Total 70,000

My trailer has a legal capacity of 48,800 pounds but it doesn't matter because it's register weight is taken in combination in PA. So if I have the truck registered for 55,000 pounds and my truck weighs 25,000 trailer is 10,000. I can only load the trailer with a 20,000 machine to stay legal.

sounds like ill be paying for moves or risking the ticket when the shovel is on, most my work is local but the dealer is 40m on the hiway so any moves for hammer rentals or service/ repairs would be illegal

Assuming CT does it the same as PA at this weight. Your GCVW would then be 53k. Truck 20k trailer 10k means you would only be able to legally move 23k in machine weight.

You might be able to get an overweight permit to move it, of course you are going to have to pay for it. I also don't know if CT follows the bridge laws for weight. If they do than you might be to short to get to the 66k you need to be legal.

Unfortunately, trucking is a money maker for the states. Between registration and fines you pay....

ok spoke with the head dmv inspector at the cmv dept. in ct, they recognize the trailers gvw , my truck is 53k, the trailer will be reg at 54k , the empty is 20k and 12k so 32 -107 is 75k which is within the 80k max, the problem .... individual axle weights , ct only allows 18k per axle so the placement of the machine will be critical to not overload any one axle, the 1st of the three axles on the trailer will be the problem axle as i move the machine forward to have good tongue weight ,pretty much have to load the machine and head to the scale to see how and where she will fit on this trailer

Are you saying they will let you register for 107000 GCVW?

Very nice trailer! So this trailer has the air tilt and the ramps or just ramps? Are they power or just spring assist?
