I fully agree 120% - what happenedmad: I like to post pictures cause I hope somebody out there enjoy my pictures, but making "doubble shifts" makes me crazy....

I tried to post some pictures earlier and got a memo saying I didnt have security cleanace and needed to contact administration. Very frustrating indeed!

We are spoiled I am afraid.Automatic picture resizing is a fairly new phenomena and is by no means universal.I would imagine that it will be working properly again in the near future.Don't stop posting those fabulous pictures!!Ron G

PSY-200 again

Here are a couple of pictures of the ex-Ross Davis 200 fresh of the transporter last week. This is #10517 and built in November 79.

I understand this was a 12V Detroit but has been repowered with a Series 60 and has a 2 speed trans. The trackframe on this machine is a Pierce and looks much like that from a TSY 255.

Ok, is that the one standing by the interstate? If so it has another cab and boom than the Madill. I have a pretty bad picture of it. But as I have tried to say already two times now Harry Scluckebier advertize (2) 6250's on my little salesman, so I would guess that in Longview is one of them.

The machine Jeremy sees under the bridge has been there for years. Its a TSY-355BC that Harv bought at auction. There's also a Berger T-23 of his (Harv's) parked there that Herb Olstedt bought brand new in 83'.

Bighorn (Harv) had 7 Thunderbird yarders last I knew, and at one time had 2 TSY-355's. He had 4 70' machines (mostly track mounted), and bought new one of the first TSY-155's that Ross built. He was always a loyal TB customer, and quit buying them shortly after the Madill aquisition (much like Jerry DeBriae and many others).

Last I knew of Harv's 6250 it was working near Estacada Oregon, and while Harry may have it in his ad, I doubt Harv would sell it, unless he was offered a crazy price that he couldnt refuse.

Mr S tends to advertise alot of machines (most of which are working everyday) that customers dont really want to sell.......just in case I suppose.

I could swear it was a 6000 series machine in T-Bird tan under the bridge? I will try to get up there either tomorrow or Tuesday and see if it's still there. Wednesday we are heading south to visit family in Northern CA. Taking the 101 thru CA so hopefully we'll get to see some redwood county on the way down!

So what's the difference between a Madill 6250 and a T-Bird TSY6255SLR? I have seen the 6255 at Weyco PeEll and Bruer's yard.

This one was the one I was talking about, parked by the I-5 a little north of Roseburg, I thought this was a 6250 but it look more like a slightly modified 155?
Suddenly it became very interesting to know when Contract Logger go back to his Washington home and start scanning the TB brochures... :notworthy

Ok, that was some nice information to keep. Next time I go to Oregon/California I surely will try to make a visit to one of the 6250, it's for sure an interesting machine!

JeremyM70 - DLS stood for 'DUAL LOGGING SYSTEM' according to my spec sheets. Essentially it was a full interlock machine that was all systems capable and comparable to the TSY 155/Madill 120 for size. Torkel pondered that it may be a better buy than a 120. It does have a more complex gear train than the 120/155 but as long as that stood up, it would be OK. I've worked on both the 120/155 down this way - the 120 worked well out to around 300 metres and then the interlock ratio starts to go out of whack where as the 155 was better over the longer hauls. If distance was a factor for the 6250 there is the option to put up the skyline. Food for thought.

contract logger do you remember the 840 loaders that were built for Erickson Air Crane? Those were sure some sweet loaders would handle just about anything you threw at them. Did the early loaders like the 940 1146 etc use Koehring cabs, they seemed to look that way. And was the 840 a one off Erickson specific machine or were more built.

Several years ago Kevin Charles brought a new TSY 6055 'I think yarder' for his Nelson NZ operation had a 3406 450hp cat in it He also had a 4 axcel 70 with a 350 detroit He ran a super skid operation for a few years I used to cart the full length trees to the super skid for processing I have pics but are in storage at the moment

I know the machine well. It was one of the early 6255 SLR's and came to Kevin via the FIME 98 Logging show in Rotorua. Don't the years go by...........

Note the D7G ripper cat used for both guylines.

Also using a Wararah 622 on a Deere carrier.

Weyerhaeuser is currently using at least 3 TY-90's on the PeEll operation as well. In the 1st pic 2 of them are visible and working.

I have some feedback re a TY 90 down here (ref Post 88). The 'one off' T9043 came into Tasmania. As I remember it was purchased through Ken Nicholls and was painted in the Diamond colours. Yes, the undercariage had been changed to a T100 SP. I have photo of it here for when I learn to attach. Sadley it copped some vandal damage around 02 and the disheartened contractor put it for sale. According to my records it went to the Gisbourne area of NZ - maybe Kiwi Logger could confirm. I've been away from the scene for a while and keen to catch up. As of around 04, we had five 90's down here.

If you could find some pics of T9043 on your side of the pond that would be really cool to see! It was moved into Marysville Washington back when Bob Hild, Kenny Nichols, and John Griffen were the owners of 'Coastal Pacific' and 'Diamond Manufacturing'. They built and re-built some REALLY neat and different styles of logging machinery there. Lots of TY-90's (Bob also owned Alaska Pacific Logging and sent several of those TY-90's up here to Alaska to work in his camps) and big Skagits. They (Diamond) built a miniature version of a TY-90, put it on tracks, and used it all over (Alaska and Washington), as well as a big swing yarder the would out-log the TSY-255's Murray was building back then (John and Ken were both early Ross people). I have several old 'Ross Equipment' sales books and the 1st 3 pages are employee pictures- It's amazing who is in there, AND sitting next to each other!
I'll see John on Tuesday, we'll all be in Anchorage for the AFA meetings, and try to get access to all his old pics. He started with Washington Iron Works in the 1960's, so he has worked on or around every type of (diesel) yarder there is. He would be offended if I tried dating him clear back to steam.
That machine was burgandy before Nichols ever built a yarder- interesting that the Diamonds turned out the same color....hadnt thought about it...

The gentleman in the blue was Wimer Logging's Salem area logging boss- I cannot remember his name now.
