Was pushing piles with it no problem, machine sat for a day or two, now the starter clunks and won’t spin, like something is holding the engine back. I took the starter out and it spins just fine away from the flywheel. I cannot turn the engine over with a barring tool. I was going to start disconnecting pumps to see if they might be holding it back. Is there something else I should check?

If you don't have a special tool for turning the engine, try the tried-and-true method of using a Stilson wrench. Take a Stilson wrench of the appropriate size and use it to turn the engine by the front damper.
