Any idea what happened? Bolts holding the bearing retainer came loose, caps loosened up?

30 hours seems something was bad from the git go until it gave it up.

First thing on the parts list for the 320C electrical fire - a Parts Manual. You're gonna need it...........
For sure. Holy cow. The customer’s PSSR made the parts list and I’m impressed with how accurately he was. Of course, he over-estimated because it’s in his personal best interest to. My opinion might change later

Sometimes I get lucky. I actually found a parts book for this thing in my library. Don’t even remember having one.

Saw this happen on one of our job sites the other day, rotator was there for 2.5-3 hrs getting it turned back upright. Quite a bit of damage to the left side of the cab, no injuries. Had been dumping in the same spot for weeks and all the sudden this guy decides to dump sideways. 824E6177-728D-4262-95B9-3FE4B9717C09.jpeg

This brand has in some cases the same issue, a friend that runs a machine shop has repaired two.

We owned a 9250 years ago (previous series, slightly smaller than the 9380 pictured). We never had articulating hinge problems. We did have a lot of brake related issues because Steiger under sized their brakes compared to comparable size Deere. Pulling a 6000 gallon liquid spreader was dicey with the Case 9250, but our 8650 Deere never had issues even though the Deere was older. It just had more weight and better brakes.

My one comment about any hinge related failures on ag equipment is farmers, or farm laborers, rarely grease to a schedule. Also, most farmers think PM is a foreign language that they don't need to learn. Those articulating hinges don't ever get serviced properly until they've failed. We have 2 articulating tractors that both have tight center hinges because they were replaced when we bought the tractors as part of the sales agreement. Our 9230 had horrible slop when we inspected it pre-purchase. It was split and line bored before we took delivery. It also got a new front axle thanks to an exploded pinion bearing. Deere sent one of their guys up to the selling farm to drive tractor to dealership for the line bore work. He barely left their farm when the front axle locked up and sent him off the road. We hadn't officially signed papers yet so it was not our tractor. Dealer made the selling farm split the bill for damages as they were found negligent/fraudulent for not disclosing that they knew something was wrong with the front end. We were told it was almost $30,000 worth of repairs. Glad it happened before we took delivery.

We had the 8650, that we later traded for the Case 9250 (powershift trans). Acquired an 8440 to supplement tillage work as the 9250 couldn't stay ahead of the 16 row planter we had upgraded to. Picked up an 8770 with a new engine for cheap at an auction. Got rid of the gutless 8440. Couple years later we picked up the 9230 Deere and got rid of the Case. Couple years after that we got a really good deal on a 9420 Scraper Special and got rid of the 8770.

The newer powershift Deeres really are a world nicer to operate, and the cabs are much quieter. Plus, both of our current articulated tractors are Greenstar ready so we can have guidance and mapping, when needed.
