Well, I didnt get to keep the schedule I had planned for today but that happens all the time for me. I did get the 700K fan/grill assembly back together but I had 2 emergency breakdowns on paving rollers so I had to pull of this job. Looks better eh!?

I did have to check with our very own resident Deere God about this fan motor boss not fitting the mounting hole bore. 1st time I had seen this............I just did the same thing on a 200 JD excavator last month and the bore fit was nice and snug.
700K fan Motor bore.jpg DG informed me that yes this was correct...........and that the engineers aren't paying attention to detail like they did in the old days. LOL.......I thought at first they gave me the wrong dam motor so I was planning on bitching in the parts guy thread this evening. :Do_O I centered the motor boss in the bore and locked it down. I may not get to put this back in the dozer until next week because with this company.........ASPHALT equipment takes priority over dirt equipment and they had 3 different things go down today.

What you dont see is the other 150' of trail that was behind me in this pic. They unloaded this paver on the street out front of the building and drove it to the back of the yard. :eek::rolleyes: I traced it to a blown out screed lift cylinder. I ordered the seal kit today.

I wonder if Deere did the oversized bore to allow adjustment of the fan in the shroud. A little miss-alignment of the shroud or mounting would make for a long day if the motor/shaft were fixed in location.

At first glance I was thinking you got a new fan assembly because it looks so much different.

I am almost certain some people try to break chit. Moving to a new shop/yard and let one of my brothers guys use my CTL, i'm not gone an hour before I get a phone call that they broke the door being lazy idiots trying to load stuff that should be loaded by hand. OEM door is over $700, that's just glass not even weather stripping or anything, aftermarket is still $400. Oh well i'm not the one paying for it. But I am going to be the one spending a bunch of time assembling it.

I heard a rumor on a possible new hire late yesterday. If its true, this hire will be even worse. I'll give more details if this happens. HNC called me late last night wanting help installing new rubber tracks on a skid loader somewhere. I don't mind helping him out, but I like to work alone.......I'm afraid he would get me hurt to be honest. I have to call him at 7:30 this morning and I'm going to tell him to just let me do it myself. Hopefully I wont get myself in trouble putting this dirt machine ahead of 4 broken down pieces of paving equipment. It wont take me long to track that skid loader so I'm going to roll the dice here.

Fully understand the need to work alone! A ratchet strap or a couple blocks of wood can much more help than some jerk who will be texting on his cell phone when you need him to be holding something!

Or like the so called help I had one day while trying to trouble shoot a starting problem on a Mack truck. I was in cab checking wiring and relays with test light when this guy rolls out from under the truck. I ask in not so nice words "What the@$@#%are you doing?" he says "Just checking the throw-out bearing." He has his hands up in the flywheel housing while I'm trying to start the motor!

Ratchet straps are the best and only hires I've had in nearly 25 years. Without those and my forklift, I would be lost as a heavy equipment mechanic.

Muletape comes in at a close second. Extremely strong, tough, durable and always easy to remove knots. I keep several different sizes on the truck. If you don't know what it is, ask an underground boring crew to get you some. It's the stuff they pull the wires through the conduit with and many times, it only gets used once. A buddy that works for Bellsouth occasionally pulls some out of the dumpster for me.

he is a idiot } on the L&I report.
Well not long after I let him know I was not happy with that stunt he must have went crying to the boss. He took a job working in another part of the plant away from me!

Before he got the job at the quarry he worked for a company that hauls milk from farms to the processing plant. One thing he complained about working there is they were in his opinion too fussy about expecting the mechanics who were working on the tankers to wash their hands regularly!

my 1/4 ton mini Jet come along is my best friend and best helping hand.

add slings, a few larger come alongs, cribbing, bottle jacks, and similar I can do damn near anything alone. I have one person at work I do grab for lining up buckets and other attachments because I have implicit trust in him but otherwise I prefer to work alone. I’m not a people person anyway.

Also a forklift is a self propelled hammer, among many other uses.

I used to hang onto a 3 inch stock about 4 feet long. Pretty heavy, so I put it on my shoulder with my back to the hammer, so I could see the bucket pin, while a large pale red headed man with a big smile would wail on it with a sledge hammer. First time he just asked, how's your nerves?

I find it easy for the CTL/mini hoe tracks solo, but the one time I had the track off my 210 I needed help getting it back on, not for anything physical just to help for placement it's way harder then the small stuff. Other then that I always figure out a way to do things myself that are pretty much two man jobs, it's just easier not dealing with others. I put up 30x40 quonset at my yard before totally by myself. If you got equipment and can think outside the box, any job is a 1 man job.

Looks like the rumor is true. The new hire (TNH) is supposed to start Monday. This guy I know a small amount about........2 run in's with him before and neither was good. He was fired from the Deere dealer 2 months ago (He was manager for field service the last several years) and hasn't been employed since the firing. I was told by others that the Deere job is the only job he has ever had. He is a young guy, if I were to guess early 30's, and supposedly has at least a few years experience in the shop and field. I'll be where he is working most of next week so we will see how this may work. I will give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

The reason I'm doubtful is according to others I know at the Deere dealer, he was fired due to doing alot of nothing. The customer complaints were very high and management got tired of it. His first job is installing the new rubber trax on the Cat 299 Monday morning. ........with HNC's help. I deliberately declined to do the job until next week so I could stay on the paving equipment, which I did get 3 of 4 going yesterday. .

When I asked HNC about TNH, he replied they are VERY good friends. That alone scares the crap out of me. Stay tuned, I have a feeling this is just gong to keep getting better and better!

A small cheer for TNH..............COME ON FELLA! Don't let me down!!!!!!
