My wife took some video clips of my dozer while I was building up a pad for my deer blind. Then we took some of an old tree that had to come out, and we finished off with clearing the debris off of a road that was too rough to maintain with my mower.

The dozer is a 1988 Case 1550.

Do they still build the 1550's don't see any of them around here at all.

I've never seen a Case dozer that big. Around here all I've seen are D3 sized machines or less. What do the horizontal cylinders on the push arms do? There's another 1550 on Youtube that doesn't have them.

That is how Case angles their blade Steve.What a mother to clean the tracks on those things.You can't get it all,you just would not have time at the end of the day to clean those tracks properly for freezing weather.

Nice video...by the look of the clearing you must be putting in a 3-bedroom, 2-story deer blind. ;)

Not very familiar with Case dozers...What's the HP and weight of a 1550?

Steve, the cylinders that are parallel to the push arms I believe are to angle the blade, the ones that connect the top of the blade to the arms both adjust the pitch fore and aft, and they also do the tilt on the blade.

Sorry, just had to do that, I used to run what I was told was a 1970 something 1150, and that thing was WORN OUT and wouldn't push much more then about half a blade. That is a nice looking machine you've got there.

Case calls the blade an 8 way blade because of those two cylinders on the blade. It changes the angle of the blade depending on the load. It's all automatic.

The manaul rates the Cummins 8.3 turbo diesel engine at 169hp. I'm pretty close to that since I rebuilt it a few years ago. New sleeves, pistons, valves, injectors and bearings. My first diesel rebuild, and hopefully my last!!! LOL

Weight with the full ROPS and 8 way blade is just under 40,000 pounds.

From what I've been told by the mechanics at Case, the 1550 was to be their big flagship dozer with all the latest technology of the time. The main thing is that it's hydrostatic drive. Three Sundstrand pumps operate the two drive motors and the blade. After two years of problems, Case abandoned this set up. Deere used the same pumps on their 850 dozers, but I don't know if they had the same problems or not. I'm told the pumps are interchangable.

The problem is that they never keep their ajustments. You adjust both tracks to work evenly, and the next day, it's different. Mine rarely track the same, but it's not that big a deal either. I just live with it.

They hydrostat is awesome. I can spin on a dime with the tracks going in oposite directions, or turn with a full load of dirt.

The deer blind is going to be pretty nice. It'll be 8x8, but it's also the early part of a large kids fort/playground that I'm going to build on the pad that I created. The playground isn't a big rush, but getting the dirt for it so that my roads all tie in together was a priority.

Our blade was completely manual, we had a pedal on the floor that you tromped on to adjust the pitch. You stepped on it then used the tilt controls and it ran both cylinders. there was a separate lever for angle controls. Our Tranny was the manual 5 lever controls, there was 1 for each track that was forward and reverse, there was 1 for each track that was high and low, then there was another one that was a tranny high and low for traveling or working. You could zero turn with that machine too, but not with the blade down.

I can't rememer for sure, but your 1550 has foot pedels for steering, doesn't it?

Hello Eddie,

I am brand new to the forum (and forums in general) so forgive me if I break some protocols. I was wondering if you could tell me where the adjustments are made to attempt to correct tracking issues on a 1550? I just bought a 1992 and it does pull to the left. The left track was over-tightened so I put it back to proper tension but it didn't seem to correct the problem. The machine only has 3200 hours and both tracks seem to push strong so I'm hoping that I don't have greater issues but wanted to give the hydrostatic adjustment a try.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated and I am inspired to see the kind of work that you have gotten done with your machine.
