Just have to keep this alive.... :D

Skagit BU199 Yarder.

By the late 1970's, the loggers were getting into the bigger old-growth and long-span sales. Skagit designed and built some big machines to attract this business. The BU199 was a large, self-contained and self-propelled 110' setup that would deal well with these conditions and requirements. 13 were built, and I believe all still exist today. I have personally had the opportinity to see, touch, and photograph 10 of them.

I have also added the original 1976 factory spec sheets for the hoist.
Jay Browning's Skagit 739 on Axe Men is a much smaller machine than this.
I'll scan some 739 spec sheets later, as well as a few pics of Jay's actual machine being built.

Skagit BU199 - Coos Bay

I agree - here's the other BU199 belonging to Millicoma Logging. Just found and borrowed these pics from Facebook. This machine is being used for parts.

I just got home from a good afternoon chat with Bill Paulsen. We sat on the deck of his lowbed and talked about yarders until I bored him to death. lol
That made my sunday for sure.

nice picture here! I think this machine is great. It just needs some upgrades to make it new again.

Guess I never posted this. The talk about the BC equipment left to rust thread got me thinking about it. Here is an old Skagit Skycar. Was told it was used by Pugh Ridge Logging near Darrington, WA in the early 60's.

Contract Logger, do you know what model of grapple carriage is used in the picture of the GT-5 (post #159)? I am looking for any information/pictures/memories on the Skagit RCC-24. Looks like it could be an old Washington Shriver as well, by the size and with the grapple hung from the back?

This one was one that Jeremy also went to. Also June 2012. T90 with WIW 127 or 137. They were running butt rigging on a crappy looking unit between Battleground and Yacolt WA. Very brushy!

Scan125.jpgBCFP Renfrew Div. #762 Skagit tower awaits its future at Honeymoon Bay DLS mid 1980's , having become surplus as the B.C. Forest Industry change from steel tower logging to grapple yarder logging . The original Skagit winch had been replaced by a Madill slackline winch in the mid 1970's.
