Funny, but I knew what you meant prior to opening the post. One of the Cat gurus will be along shortly I'm sure.

Maybe swap sides or turn them 180 degrees and build up the worn areas with weld??

What is the strategy to manage this wear?
Keep a closer eye on the free play and remove shims (#2) from the push arm caps sooner.......
If it gets to the point where the shims are all gone then replacement weld-on balls (ooh-er missus) are generally available. Either that or replace the trunnion ball assembly #1 complete.

With the amount of wear on the trunnion ball visible in your photo you will probably find that the Bearing #9C and the Cap #7 also require replacement. #9C is also weld-on.
