Got another weird & wonderfull problem today :Banghead

JLG 60HA with PQ controllers. The main lift controller had a dead spot at full stroke on the up function. No big deal, had a new controller on the shelf. It was a "Total Source" knock-off (Hindley Electronics), put it in, the lift function pulsed up & down for a few seconds and then let the smoke out. Tried to get the smoke back in - couldn't do it. Checked & found Swing controller and Tower lift controller operated main lift just fine, no problems. Ordered up a genuine PQ from JLG, stuck it in, everything worked great. Went to take it out of the shop, about 1/2 way out, lost main boom lift, let the smoke out of that controller too. Checked again, swing & tower controllers still working good as a main lift.

bad luck or high draw someplace??? I'm getting a little camera shy here.......afraid to order #3. Anybody know of a test to check the draw on that circut? :(

Verify 100% that when the Platform Control Box lid is closed and fastened that something is not shorting out.
Many times wires touch other wires when the lid is closed.

Full amp draw of each of the Lift Coils (lift up and lift down) should be about 2200ma (2.2A) when the valve spool is fully shifted (Joystick fully stroked).
This will probably not be the issue considering the fact that the Swing and Tower Controllers have no issue with the Main Lift Circuit.

Does the controller have a 6-pin or a 9-pin connector plug?

A Circuit Board burning up is suggesting their is a short between either the + input (pin 3) or - input (pin 1) and the Main Lift Up directional output (pin 6).

Good thought on that controller box lid. It's open when we're swapping controller functions. I'll check that out real careful.

It's a 6 pin connector and we always check to make sure the wires match before installing a new controller.

Thank you sir :notworthy

two bad controllers in a row, one from "One Source", the second from JLG. The third controller I brought in was a genuine JLG item and that was the end of the problem. :Banghead
