Hi, was wondering if anyone could tell me if there was another machine that runs the same non diff lock diff head as a 613A scraper?

One guy I talked to said maybe an 815 trash compactor?

I was thinking a 518 skidder, planetaries are the same but diff head is smaller.

I only really want the cast diff centre that the crown wheel bolts to as my one has had a repair done to where one of the carrier bearings sits which has now failed and I'm not keen on trying it again.

Cheers, Rob.

yes those are at trackworks. I know one of hose diffs is in good nick, well it never gave us any trouble. The head is out of a loader, not sure if it was a 950 or a 966 head, cant remember though sorry. if your needle rollers in the planetarys are looking warn make up some brass bushes and nurl them to let the oil lubricate the pin.

well the next post clears all that up hehehe

Yes that triggered another memory burst brainzie. We used to use a pencil grinder to nic a wee groove in the diff head underneath the steel washers for the spider gears to give them abit more lube to help in severe cases of wheel spinout. As we saw several that had worn the case unuseable due to excessive wear. If all those heads are the same will give you a few more choices HSV.
Also while were on 613s. Saw where someone had ditched the cat drive motor for the elevator; and rigged up a modified drive from a hitachi ex60 track motor to drive the elevator. Owner is very happy with it works better than original ever did. Just another idea to keep in the back of ones mind if you own a 613.

Thanks for all the info guys, as usual the people on this site are a wealth of knowledge!

Brainzie, D6 Merv, I have talked to Trackworks, those diffs sound pretty good but was hoping to just get the part I need to repair mine as it is in good condition other than that.

That diff head Brainzie is refering to was out of a 966 we found the spline on the axels were different cant remember what the differences were. number of teeth I think. We put the replacement diff head into the machine and went to put the axels in and they wouldnt fit. Had to use a few of the good parts out of the old diff.

Cheers

Hi Hsv. Hope the repair has gone well.I had trouble with my 615 in that on a hot day with longer hauls the final drive temps would creep up.l reduced the temp by20 degrees in over filling the diff/final drive (common). Touch wood the magnetic bungs have stayed clean.Hi oil temps reduce the oils ability for the rating you require. If you think your temps are still to high you may want to look at a synthetic oil .I stayed with the hypoid oils and added an additive. The heat generated from wheel spin can add to high temps very quickly.Goodluck Cheers Alan .
