Installing Hydraulic thumb but what's this piece for?

Bought a new thumb and this piece of metal looking like a template come with it. Whats it for?

that looks like the piece that you weld to the stick then weld the thumb to it thats what the holes are for to plug weld it to the stick. so you don't rip the face off your stick.

don't skip on it especially at the bottom where the main thumb pin mount's i have had them twist off when something rolls in bucket(log/stump)

they normally give you welding instructions.
