hitachi ex200-2 hyd. pump removal

    I have to take a hydraulic pump off of of a 1992 ex200-2 this weekend and the machine is 6 hours away so i do not want to drive the work truck all the way there. can any of you mechanics let me know what tools i need to have to take the pump off?

    Not sure what all tools your gonna need, but you better take some clean drums to drain the hyd tank into in case there's no tank shut off valve, which there probably isn't. Going to need metric allen head tools for sure, up to maybe 10 to 12 mm. And while your in there, you might want to go a little further and inspect the pump drive coupler, would be a shame to repair and reinstall pumps and a month later the drive coupling craps out. And before you reinstall pumps, be sure to check or replace any old rubber hose pipes in the suction line, and replace all flange o-rings in piping, now's the time to do that with the tank empty. ;)

    A Dash 2 is more than likely going to need a new coupler. That fiber joint never lasts as long as the pump. A lot of times the rear main seal on the engine is leaking also. An oily mess below the front part of the pump is a sure sign of it.

    I don't have a plate for those anymore but if this is going to be a habit I used to put a vacuum on the hydraulic tank and then bolt a plate over the suction pipe when I took it loose. If you don't have that there is a drain plug but it usually turns the house at a funny place making it hard to reach the pump mounting bolts. I used a barrel pump most of the time. If you are fixing the pump you will probably put new oil in anyway.

    Hi guys,
    I just bought a 94 ex200lc and have a little too much hydraulic fluid in the tank (it is half way between the top red line and the top of the glass check tube) and I would like to drain some out so it sits in the middle of the two red lines. Anyway, how do I drain some out? Is there a drain plug on the tank and where is it located if there is one.

    have you got the boom in the correct position to check the oil?.. from memory those you have the boom and dipper fully extended and the bucket tucked in, the drain plug should be under the hyd. tank hidden behind a cover or on the bottom of the main hyd suction pipe.. personally i wouldnt stress too much it'll make a mess trying to get a small amount out unless you can suck/siphon it out

    Thanks guys. Got it all fixed up here.
    New question though. I need to adjust the tension on one of my tracks because it sags a little, where do I find the grease fitting for where I pump grease into to adjust the tracks? Can someone post a picture of where it would be located on an excavator please. I have a hitachi ex200. Thanks for all the help guys. I have looked and looked for that grease fitting but can't find it anywhere.

    You might want to think about getting an operator's manual. They're cheap.
    I'll show maintenance procedures, fluid capacities and types of oil.

    On a 150 there's a square hole in the center of the track frame where you access the fitting. I'll be on the end of the adjuster. You can rotate the fitting (just the zerk- 10mm wrench) if it's in the wrong spot. Be sure to clean it off and leave about 3" of sag between the middle roller and and the chain. Check the operator's manual for the correct measurement.

    *Lift the track off the ground when adjusting

    is the fitting located on the inside or outside of the track frame? also is it on the top of the bottom of the frame? thanks for the help. I am in the process of getting a manual from the local dealer but I need to get running again. Thanks for the help.

    You will see an oval shaped hole on the outside of the trackframe,about 3 feet back from the front idler.
    Your grease fitting is in there,possibly below a section of angle iron that protects it.

    I set track sag on 200's to 12 inches between the bottom of the track frame to the track pad,with that track raised in the air. Spec is 11 3/8" to 13 3/8"

    you adjust it by pumping grease in there correct? Thanks for the help. The link didn't work but I had a feeling it was that small opening on the front. Just got to get the dirt out now.
