I have some questions about these dozers. This is the first job( coal mine) that I have ever run a tractor of this size. I will ive you a little background first. These are obviously old machines (one is showing around 82k on the clock), and we handle a lot of material, in the neighborhood of 2,800 raw tph and 16 to 18 tph clean. So in order for us to keep up we eventually end up pushing uphill.
Now my question. Is it common for these things to want to turn sideways when backing off the hill? We also have a couple of N's that do the same thing. I'm just curious, I know they wont fix them. Our "mechanics" seem to prefer working on things instead of fixing them. For instance we don't change oil, we change engines. I ran a 10 N one night that in 6 hours i put a grand total of 110 gallons of hyd in it. Whatever you gotta do to get by, and 20 to 30 gallons of oil in the trans a shift is acceptable!!!! Its a fine place I tell you, but its a steady job
