Cranking while turning steering wheel

Cat 416b backhoe is not starting. It cranks, and some smoke comes out from exhaust when primed. Before this, it constantly dies while working.
The battery acts low when cranking but it cranks faster while steering. Does that mean something needs attention or is it normal? I don't understand the reason for that.
Thanks

The reason is the hydraulic system is putting a load on the engine causing it to turn over slowly.. moving the steering wheel unloads the hydraulic system..
BUT.. that trick was only used on J.Deere.. but if it works, it works.
