Have a 287B loader and in winter it blows the rubber oil filler cap off. Has this happened to anyone else? I cant seem to find a valve cover vent or anything, i wondered if it freezes from time to time. There is another cap towards the front of the machine on the top of the valve cover. Does anyone know if this cap is supposed to be vented?

Never in a skid steer, but I've had the vents freeze up and the engine start leaking oil on a couple occasions. It looked like a frozen foam inside the vent, just let the engine sit for a while to melt the ice out and then started back up.

On my 248 with the Perkins, the breather froze up. On the side of the block you'll see a plastic contraption that has a hose running to the crankcase, condensation builds up within it and can freeze making it malfunction. It happened one night when we were blowing snow from sidewalks in town and the smoke that poured out of the exhaust was ridiculous. Actually had oil dripping from the muffler.

There's a service letter out for modifying the breather system to fix freezing problems.

I'm not near SIS right now. Nige, can you dig it up?

Here we go. It's a service mag, not letter. SEPD0888.

Nige, can you make the pictures appear. I don't know how to.
