Cat 345 B series

G'day all,

I was just wondering all of your opinions on the Cat 345 B series excavators?

From what I have seen they seem like not a bad excavator and pretty reliable.
But, over here in Australia they are selling for pretty cheap and my old man keeps asking me why?

Are the pieces of shite?

My 345 BL has 11,000 hours on it no major work. It's done some demo, ledge work so its been used but still goes.

used 345

The world wide economy slowdown might be reaching your neighborhood. Used cat excavators have dropped in price over the last few years in the states and it very well could be having an impact on prices in your backyard. I'm near Cat production facilities and layoffs are occurring as a result of slower new product sales. In the midwest, the 345 is probably one of the most popular machines used.

Rockmuncher, There has been some incredibly good deals at auction on mid sized excavators of all brands. However, with the B look into the hours since last overhaul. Two big companies here have been quitting all their high hour stuff because thay just don't have the cash for major overhauls and the 30-50% Tax breaks on new purchases.

Yes,

I understand this and agree completely! But, the are going really cheap in comparison to other Cat excavators.

Dad has been in the excavator business along time, he owns 3 Cat 330's(one B and two C's) and a Cat 375.
We are always watching the market and keeping an eye on things and these machines keep standing out.

For example,
There is a 2000 345BL series ii for sale at the moment with 6000 hrs, full track guards, ROPS cabin protection, etc. Very very tidy machine. Advertised just breaking $100 000 Aus so I could probably get it for just under $100 000 Aus.

In comparison,
A reasonable 375 is asking for $300 000 + with 15000 + hours on the clock

And a tidy 2003+ 365 B is asking nearly $450 000 with at least 6000 hours on the clock.

And a reasonable 2000 365B is asking over $300 000.

Is your market the same?

Thanks,

Shane

The cat 345b's are ok. The 345c and d are a lot better. We have one C model and 3 new D models and they are very nice. The B model always seemed very slow to me.

I haven't paid much attention to anything larger than a 345 being sold but I have noticed that the 330's and the 345's aren't bringing much more than the 320's and 325's at auction. You need more permits to move the 330's and 345's but if you're only doing smaller jobs the lighter machines have held their value's better. The larger machines are often used for larger construction jobs like road building and that activity has come to a standstill in the midwest. The larger machines in this area might be suffering more in value because there might be fewer stationary jobs like mining and larger construction projects.
