    Tracking Heavy Equipment

We use ManagerPlus software, very inexpensive in the world of maintenance software tools. Has a ton of features too. We use it to track costs and schedule various PM's on everything from sand plates to Scrapers. On some machines I have set-up around 8-10 different schedules for various levels of...

    Rad repair

Another thing to consider is making sure you aren't overfilling the radiator, most of the old machines that would be sporting a 3306 also require the fluid level to be about halfway in the top tank. Room for expansion etc.

Durmetal - anyone ever heard of it?

Belzona is awesome in the right application. Had a crankshaft damper come loose on a Mercedes diesel, wore down the crank on a slight taper. Slid a new damper on and oh-boy not gonna cut it, wobbled as bad as the old one. Put a stone on a diegrinder and cut 1/4" wide slots lengthwise in the...

    Thoughts on AutoLube Systems

The newer autolube systems (Lincoln) have even distribution valves on them that make sure each joint gets an equal shot, if the hose gets torn off there is no resistance in that valve and the luber shuts down with a fault. However, there is still the issue of now nothing is getting grease...

    Dealer service rates

Part of the issue today is... who wants to learn this damn dirty, greasy, job that leaves you with bruises and cuts from head to toe, just so the customer can yell at you for not fixing the thing he didn't tell you about to start with? It's way easier to get into something computer related that...

    What kinda shenanigans is this?

Likely no water around the molten metal, one ounce of water submerged is equal to a stick of dynamite in molten metal, and if you ever been near a furnace open hearth when it blows, you'll never want to see it again. Water is very dangerous in those conditions. No way they would use it to cool...

    Diesel Laptops

When we have called their tech support guys for help, they have been able to help us every time. We haven't had our system very long, about 6 months, so far works as advertised.

    Diesel Laptops

Check out diesellaptops.com, we have the truck kit. Works very well most of the time. We only have issues with the Paccar segment at times, and the latest update seems to have fixed it. It is not an automatic fix for trucks, but does what it claims. We use it on our Sterlings with Cat engines...

    Excavator hydraulic thumbs

Stay away from "Tag", we have several Tag buckets and thumbs and have had horrible luck with both. We use ours for mainly demo work so it is tough work. We have Deere and Esco thumbs and both have held up well.

    online bidding

Just make sure the item has the "Ironclad Guarantee" and you won't be disappointed. Our company has purchased several items and only one time was the item not as advertised, seems it received some damage after the pics were taken. It had the guarantee and we returned it and got our money back...

Its that time of year. Lets discuss ether.

Too much ether and boom, broken rings. $8000.00 later for an inframe overhaul and loss of the machine for a week. Ether is just too expensive.

Anyone have any experience Good/Bad with John deere 225 DLC Excavators?

We have several Deere excavators in varying sizes, both D's and G's. They are good machines. The only issues we have are on machines equipped with hydraulic thumbs, the stick seems to be a bit weak, we have had to replace a couple sticks (arms) and weld a couple up and reinforce.

    Why is it so?

Would work well if you are double jointed in the neck I guess, lol I would hate to pull that thing around all day, be much more natural if it angled off to the other side. Much easier to watch.

D4H under load blows light grey smoke

Just re-read your OP, and the gap is intentional between the muffler and stack, serves a couple functions, one is to act as a venturi and pull air from the compartment so the stack itself doesn't get as hot, and also to keep rain water from getting into the muffler and possibly engine. The water...

Terex skl 834 rear end parts needed

Contact Terex on their website, they will point you towards a vendor in your area. I know this from personal experience recently, needing parts for a Terex/Benford compactor.

670a John Deere Motorgrader transmission problem

Iron Planet, Purple Wave, Ritchie Brothers in FT Worth. Should sell well due it running fine for a few minutes. However, Iron Planet will test the machine and do an in-depth analysis, Purple Wave will want to video it moving. Maybe Ritchie would be best bet.

D4H under load blows light grey smoke

Cat used this setup for a very long time, and still does on some applications. Not so much for vibration as it is for growth of the hot exhaust parts as they heat up, and ease of assembly. Easiest way to gain access will be to remove the muffler mounting bolts, then you can slide the muffler...

    pressure washer swivel wand

    Centrifuging Hydraulic Oil?

You also might want t remind him that the additives will also clean out with the dirt. Personally, I wouldn't take the chance on ruining a pump re using old oil.

Cat D8R internal trans case line cracked

You're right Nige, but normally we would use the pssr to get the ball rolling, and usually he is in our corner to a degree. At any rate, worth a try... all they can do is say no. And if the help you get is in the form of a tool loan to swell the tube, all the better. :)
