How To Add Auxiliary Hydraulics to 955L?

That's a really good idea. Definitely the smartest if possible. Will have to wait until I move in a couple of years, but it will be great to have a parts 955 also...just in case. Thanks for the replies everybody.

    Loose Shanks on Bucket

Actually, my mind must have been playing tricks on me. Teeth all seem tight to the shanks after I went to double check. It's only the shanks that are loose. I'll go ahead and weld the shanks to the cutting edge. Teeth look like they've got a fair amount of life left in them.

    Loose Shanks on Bucket

Sounds good. I will run it for a bit before I make a decision. I was considering attempting to insert shims inside the teeth, then weld to the shank. I have some high strength steel. Wondering if it would be a waste of time though and the steel would just get mashed up. The aftermarket teeth I'm...

    Loose Shanks on Bucket

Judging by the consistent look of all the teeth, I'd say it doesn't have a problem losing them, unless of course they are being lost, then found again. Previous 2 owners didn't really care for the machine, but they didn't beat it up either.

    Loose Shanks on Bucket

Teeth are rather loose, at least the ones I checked. I recently purchased the loader and just about finished doing repairs and tune ups so I can't comment on it losing teeth. Was a farm loader the past 20 years also but I think it got 400-700 hours on it during that time. I plan to use it about...

    Loose Shanks on Bucket

My 955L has bolt on shanks. Every one has an inch or more movement. I'm guessing the bolt holes are worn pretty badly. Cutting edge is welded on and seems to be in good condition. Should I weld the shanks to the cutting edge? Im under the assumption the shanks should not be loose at all. This...

How To Add Auxiliary Hydraulics to 955L?

I'd like to put a custom grapple on my 955L 85J7889. Any suggestions where I should plumb in / how I should do this? I've done this before on my Deere Loader backhoe, but I'm not really familiar with the hydraulics on this 955L.

955L - Is this why my parking brake isnt working?

Thanks for the suggestion. I did that but I couldn't see anything, even with a special camera that can look into pipes. The bands are just too far down with too many obstacles above them. I talked to an older Cat tech a few days ago and he told me basically I'm just going to have to wait until...

955L Flexible Drive Coupling Question About Replacement

It does look a lot easier to access from underneath, or at least most of it. There's a 1" ID rubber connecting hose that is leaking next to the flex coupling drive, I think it's hydraulic cylinder fluid because the hydraulic fluid reservoir was losing fluid, fairly fast. So I'm planning to get...

955L Flexible Drive Coupling Question About Replacement

    Just got a call back from local Cat technical assistance. Rear Mount Engine Shims 6K7195 - .035" 6K7194 - .065" 6K8715 - .120" Front Mount Engine Shims 6K8717 - .035" 6K8716 - .065" 6K8714 - .120" I think the guy said that 2 of each are required for a 'factory' fit, but I might have...

955L Flexible Drive Coupling Question About Replacement

Do you happen to know the part number for the engine shims? I've called Cat and some other places and no one has any reference to a part number. Just spoke to an old timer and he says I could use washers to adjust the height. I would try to find the highest grade washer steel I could, like 12.9...

955L Flexible Drive Coupling Question About Replacement

Thanks for those uploads Nige and the info Nick. I've got a parts manual and a service manual, but still difficult interpreting some parts. 7M-1848 - https://www.ebay.com/itm/266422809395 Are these the engine shims? I'm 99% sure I have a 3304 PC but there's no serials anywhere so I'm going by...

955L Flexible Drive Coupling Question About Replacement

Thanks for the advice. I will go ahead and replace them all. Is the center rubber and 2 outer metal plates all one piece?

955L Flexible Drive Coupling Question About Replacement

There's 1 or 2 cracked flexible drive coupling on my 85J7889 955L 3304 PC. I was wondering if they need to be replaced now. I don't notice any out of the ordinary vibrations, but I'm still learning about the machine. When reinstalling, do they need to be checked for alignment, or does the...

955L - Is this why my parking brake isnt working?

Is there any way to get a visual on the brake lining and wear on it without taking everything apart? 1971 85j7889 955l

955L - Is this why my parking brake isnt working?

Nope. Haven't done that yet. Waiting for a manual and doing some other repairs also.

955L - Is this why my parking brake isnt working?

Thanks for the info. It seems to steer fine, and the steering uses the brake bands, correct? Do you think the brakes just need to be adjusted to get the parking brake to work?
