If you really are not going to haul a backhoe much at all, you might get away with a single rear wheel 3/4 or 1 ton. I have an 06 GMC 3500 single rear wheel with an allison 6speed and an 8.1, and it pulls very good. Not quite as good as a turbo diesel, but more than adequate. I don't drive it... -
