    My CAT 426 Project

Had 5 hours today to do more work. Got the axle put together and installed in the machine. Got the brakes adjusted, then adjusted all the linkage. The brake linkage was whacked out. Took an hour or so to get it all dialed in. Next weekend I should get the wheels on and driving around. The left...

    My CAT 426 Project

The first day it rained I did somethings indoors. The next couple days it rained I just worked. As Nice said the rain won't kill you.

    My CAT 426 Project

While apart I took the time to clean the dirt out of the frame on the right side and the oily dirt and debris from the left side. The left side axle seal was leaking pretty bad. I used rust encapsulator on the rust and then painted it yellow so it looks better. I finished the right side...

This was the brakes from the left side. Had to set the preload on the axle bearings. Simple enough.

    My CAT 426 Project

Last week I was working on one side of the axle and I realized the brakes were worse than I thought so I ordered some additional parts. The bearing and seal were not that difficult. Got one hand completed yesterday and flipped it over and took apart of the other side.

555E Wheel bearing preload torque spec

With tapered roller bearings you do not want any play but you also don't want them tight or they will burn up. In the old days when repacking wheel bearings I would take a wrench and tighten them real tight, spin the wheel a few times then loosen and just tighten until the nut and washer took up...

    My CAT 426 Project

The fork extension does look bad. It really isn't. The extensions were given to my brother by a body shop up the street who used them to move cars around. He bent them. He has a much bigger forklift now. I would put the chain further back but there is a hole in the spot so it was more secure...

    My CAT 426 Project

Of course every day I took off work had to rain. I said "f*** it and worked in the rain." Tomorrow I hope to get one section off and apart.

    My CAT 426 Project

Finally had time to work on my 'hoe. I am tackling a leaking wheel seal. Since the axle has to come apart for this and the bearing needs to be replaced I will do both sides and replace the brake discs while in there. This project is dragging on and I need this machine soon to start a house build.

Need parts for 1969 Dynahoe Backhoe model 140 This time U Joint the whole unit

Maybe these will help? https://www.moog-suspension-parts.com/universal-joints-ujoints.asp https://spicerparts.com/resources/measuring-u-joints As was said above U-joints can be found by measuring. If you are worried about doing this take the shaft to a driveshaft shop. They will do the...

    Radiator leak

Fixing it in the chassis is near impossible. Pull the radiator and take it to a shop and have it repaired. They will boil it out, clean it, repair any holes and return it. You may end up needing a new core as that one is too far gone.

New member - advice on used backhoe

The advice to steer clear of machine loaded with electronics is sound and is applicable to cars and lights trucks too. Replacement parts for the electronics are usually limited to the manufacturer and will be discontinued much sooner than anything in the past. These computers are not made by...

06 JCB 214s Battery light and warning light come on only when being given gas.

Remove the belt, clean the pulleys and install a new belt. Make sure it is the proper size, width and length. As was said above disconnecting a battery cable while running is not advisable. It will cause the alternator to full field which will put out 18v or so and can damage any electronics...
