    Winch leaking Hydraulic oil ?

Looking in the Manual - Troubleshooting section - Yes, this appears to be a vent plug and "Winch leaks a large volume of oil through the vent plug. - This is caused by the hydraulic oil leaking into the winch through the Hydraulic motor seal or a damaged O-ring in the winch brake". I think I'll...

    Winch leaking Hydraulic oil ?

Clark 720 OS 20 Ton RT- Roughly 1975 vintage. Winch sprung a hydraulic oil leak yesterday, just before last lift of the day. Leaking from what appears to be some kind of pressure relief. At first, I thought it was a grease nipple (7/16" hex) but when I put my fingers on it, oil poured out more...

    De-rate / re-rating a crane

So, on a de-rated crane, would the mfr. then publish a separate lift chart for that particular unit ? I had initially thought of the de-rating as something the Certifying Engineer would do in response to wear or some kind of damage, or the way that unit may have been equipped / rigged.

    De-rate / re-rating a crane

Just curious here; From the "advice" thread: Under what kind of circumstances would a crane be de-rated to a lower rating, with the possibility to be re-rated to the original, higher rating ?

    Crane pads

36" dia. is probably "Overkill" for a 20 Tonne on asphalt or concrete 99% of the time -- but for that 1% of the time when there's a soft spot hiding under the surface.

    Crane pads

I see where "crane pads" have come up for discussion a couple times here. Thought I'd post up photos of ones that I like -- I made these myself, for my 20 Tonne Clark R/T. I've had a couple of scary experiences with inadequate pads and / or soft footing, so I'm more than a little cautious about...

    Annual mechanical inspection form ?

Hey, thanks man. :D PM sent

    Annual mechanical inspection form ?

Thanks very much guys, much appreciated. :) That's exactly what I needed - not sure which one I'll use yet, may take them both for a "test run".

    Annual mechanical inspection form ?

Thanks for your replies. I've also discussed this with the guy that does the Magnaflux inspections. He tells me that Worksafe BC wanted the Engineer that provides the structural certificate to also do the mechanical inspection. Apparently, the Engineers have refused, saying that a mechanical...

    Annual mechanical inspection form ?

I'm in BC, Canada. Besides my daily operator's inspection, an annual structural inspection (magnaflux every accessable weld), and operator Certification, "Worksafe BC" is now requiring an annual mechanical inspection "by a qualified person". In discussing this with my Worksafe BC rep., I told...

    R/T Crane - Boom cradle ?

Thanks guys. Generally what I was thinking -- just have to make a "custom one" to fit my machine.

    R/T Crane - Boom cradle ?

Salmon Arm Yeah, I was thinking of an "H" configuration, with a couple of broad "Feet". Yeah, these guys that run the logging roads in the mountains mostly work for the big companies and they've had their rates squashed down so badly that they've got to really "fly" to make any money. Low beds...

    R/T Crane - Boom cradle ?

Telling these guys to "slow down" doesn't always work. That road was terrible. Had nuggets the size of watermelons, sticking up 4 or 5 inches - lots of them. I was behind the low bed - had trouble keeping up in my pickup - nuggets would make my pickup fishtail. At the time, I never thought it...

    R/T Crane - Boom cradle ?

Outriggers were down - taking some weight - not sure how much but probably quite a bit - rubber was still touching. Yes, boom all the way down (presuming main boom cylinders are bottomed out in this position). Boom is ~ 30 ft. all sucked in - pulled down "hard" with chain boomers + fast driver...

    R/T Crane - Boom cradle ?

No "float mode" that I'm aware of. Yes, a different low bed for sure, but even at that, I'm not so sure I'd want to risk another job like that. I'm just wondering what other guys do in a situation like that (low bedding over a rough road). I was thinking that some kind of a "boom cradle" to...
