Cat 980H Won't go into gear

Sorry for starting a thread then disappearing. The machine ran fine for a day and a half then wouldn't go into gear at all again. The FNR switch, upshift and downshift switches, parking brake switch, and neutralizer all checked out good on ET. The machine also had a leak that was coming from the...

Cat 980H Won't go into gear

Well, was on my way back to the machine when I got a message that it miraculously started working again. They are using it now so I will have to get the status report this evening. I'm sure its going to act up again, at least that is how it usually goes.

Cat 980H Won't go into gear

Good evening, Working on a Cat 980H s/n JMS02203 It will not go into gear, forward or reverse. Checked with ET and all the electronics appear to be working as far as operator inputs, park brake switch, etc. the thing that is odd to me is, when you select forward or reverse you get a status flag...

    HPCU valve

That is a very good, clean and straight looking track loader. You don’t see many of them in that good condition nowadays.

Mail Order/Better Pricing for CAT Parts?

Off Road Equipment have saved us a lot of money. Recently bought some parts for an older 973 loader, through the dealer the total would’ve been right at $4,000. Got them from Off Road for around $850. The parts were aftermarket versions but good quality. Definitely recommend them.

    963C 2002 year Issues

May need to be calibrated. It’s not too terribly hard to do, just kinda aggravating some times. What part of Ky are you working in? I have access to a laptop with ET. I’m in the northern part of the state. Depending on your location I could possibly take a look at it.

    Track pad bolt source

We tried using grade 8 bolts once in an emergency type situation. 3/4” bolts on a Liebherr 641 track loader with ~27” shoes. The bolts didn’t fair too well, they stretched pretty quickly and the shoe came loose. On the same machine another time we used aftermarket bolts and nuts to tighten a...

Cat D400E data link/ ECM problems.

Well, the problem has been solved. Another mechanic found a short in the harness somewhere on the engine. He repaired it and all is back to normal. I didn't get to see exactly where the short was or which wire. A big thank you to Mark250 for the valuable info on the ECM's. Very much appreciated.

Cat D400E data link/ ECM problems.

Mark250, I will finally get back on this job (D400E) this afternoon. I will check the hoist lever switch. Also thanks for the ECM power info. I will definitely print this out and keep it in the drawer of my box with all my other important info and paperwork. As it will come in very handy from...

    CS563E starting issues

Yes, the pump requires 24volts to the ECM or controller which is inside the pump. That controller then supplies the necessary voltage to a metering solenoid which controls fuel delivery to the injectors. I believe it also works as the shut off by interrupting fuel flow. There is also a timing...
