No, I didn't grind the valves. On reflection, it was probably a mistake but at the time I had the mindset; "this engine was running as is, so don't adjust anything".......so, I removed each valve one at a time, wire brushed the rust, and oiled them up. Some had rusted tight due to the water... -

Thankyou KSHANSON Thankyou kshansen for the data. The engine does have glow plugs which I used. Interestingly, the engine was much closer to running on the hotter days with an ambient temp of around 32C. Your starting chart surprisingly says no glow time necessary! -

The air intake chamber cover is off so I was able to spray aerosol directly into each individual cylinder to see if any were not responding. Glad you mention the fuel injection because something doesn't seem quite right, notable yesterday was a pool of diesel fuel accumulated in the inlet... -

Thanks OzDozer for the advice, I am looking into somehow posting video. Re the valves, there is no decompression lever and all the valves are quite loose (about 2mm movement) when in the released position. I have just ordered a 'leak down test' kit, will have to wait a week+ for that to arrive. -
