This is for asphalt as well. The water keeps the wheels wet so the asphalt does not stick. On some you can adjust the air in the tires. Here, you would have a large double drum roller follow the asphalt spreader. The rubber tire roller like this one would come next, followed by another double drum to take out marks and bumps. They all spray water on drums or tires to keep the page from sticking to them.View attachment 165893 View attachment 165894 View attachment 165895 https://houston.craigslist.org/hvo/5976055019.html
For doing dirt or gravel roads, with water available to soak, how does this type roller work compared to a Vibratory crum?
In case the link is dead it's a gallion pneumatic tire roller
Now you tell me? Lol No, this will be used for what we call caliche or crushed rock! It will be used on smaller jobs like short driveways or sidewalks! Yes it will be finer pieces, and for now I'll have to rent a heavier roller for a longer or larger road or pad! I'm not wanting to do much more than driveways and house/concrete pads for now, probably never get into asphalt or concrete work, as there's enough people doing that I can Sub contract out if need be!Are you working with asphalt? I am assuming that you know the water is for paving, not dust control or compaction. If you are going to be rolling anything but fine material with double drum roller, just know that that type of roller is really rough on anything but really fine material, and they are really dangerous on the shoulder of the road, meaning that they upset easy.
A neighbor has one like this for sale, and he uses it to pack the caliche! Although, the one place I seen him use it, it didn't look like it did a very smooth job? Simply because the clay he threw the rock on, ate the rock!!This is for asphalt as well. The water keeps the wheels wet so the asphalt does not stick. On some you can adjust the air in the tires. I'll remember that about being slippery! Maybe I'll drop the rubber tires down and they can act as outriggers? It can be used for aggregate compaction, we used to use them plus a lot of water on sandy gravel. But it is primarily for asphalt. There should be scrapers on the tires, and a tarp like a skirt around the wheels to keep the heat in. I've seen tow behind models on clay ground. I am dead serious about that little double drum being dangerous on the edge of the road. They will slip into he ditch really quickly and roll over.
