National 800 series

Just painted my (circa 1985) National 875 "boom truck" (not a crane I guess)
Have an appointment to get it certified next week.

Looking at the service manual for decal placement, "work Area"
requires decals (besides load chart & ID plate) what goes there?
manual calls out 4 decals all with the same PN . Certifier has not been too helpfull, and has assured me if they are not right, he'l be making two trips.
Anyone?

Probably a range diagram...Liebherr you got any ideas???

Hey Brush;

Double check the ASME B30.5. I am pretty sure it will tell you that in addition to the load chart and serial number ID, you require:
a. a range diagram;
b. dimensions/weights for your block or ball;
c. the working load of your hoist cable; and
d. a crane hand signal diagram.

Those pieces of info should cover all the bases. Just my $0.02 though...

I'd find some warning signs about contacting overhead power lines as well.....

Load Chart should have all pertinent information like range diagram hook weight and wire rope specs. Make sure it comes from the manufacturer with the serial number of the crane stamped on it. It also has to be permanently attached to the machine. You also must have an Overhead Electrical Hazard Sign and a Hand Signal Chart. You'll need two each. One for each operating station.
Also you must have the weight of the Block or Ball and the rated capacity on them. If the name plate is gone. Write it on with a Sharpie or a Paint Stick. Doesn't have to be pretty. Just has to be legible.

I have everything figured out except the operator station

I found a similar unit locally, im going to go check it out this afternoon.

What has complicated things is that the unit need only to appear as it was factory equipped ie 1985 standards. (so ive been told)

The previous owner had wired the "burst of speed" (winch) button at the station to remotely start the engine, pretty cool, I thought, but a big no-no according to the man. was not a factory option.
even though the winch has no burst capabillity. Im hoping the guy wont push it, the only response hes going to get is the starter grinding on a spinning ring gear... maybe I should unwire it...

Crushing hazard for the outriggers ,limits of appraoach to hyro line ,Machinery not grounded electrical hazard,Twoblock warning decal,All function's labeled correctly,Machinery to be operated by trained personel decal,operation of machinery outside of its rated capacity warning decal ,no hoisting over personell..

You may need some or all ..the biggies are the electrical and A2B decals..



On the load chart the range diagram ,and such should be all in one or two seperate decals..on each side of the pedstal..

The electrical warnings,A2B warnings,may have to be put there ..regardless of when it was manufactured..Check with your regulator..

The switch for the starter is in argument..depending who and where ..It can go there because it only starts the engine.. ..however if its there and it dosent work ..you fail..not labeled properly ,you fail..If its an unused Hi-Speed switch ..make it so ..If its an issue..

The National should have an Engine kill on the console ..red switch ,,rocker type..

Also the horn switch on the operators platform. make sure thats operating correctly. They were flaky at best when they were new.
