Feb. 2014 this smart old trucker stopped town and put 2 sets of triple chains on the drivers then lifted the lead Axle on trailer before heading west up the mine hill with his load of straw bales.View attachment 298389View attachment 298390
Whats the gross weight allowed on that set up. The dot in pa would run out of pens if he stop that. Only doubles allowed here are 2 pups

The truck that lost it's trailer brings back memories. When I was driving tractor trailers for our school bands, a new driver had this happen to him. He "thought" he had hooked up one of the band trailers. turns out it was not latched securely. As he made his first turn onto the city street, the trailer came loose and ended up on its "dolly" legs. That was his last trip driving a band truck. Wish I had remembered to take a photo. Lots of hand cranking required to get it rehooked to the tractor.

I was 16 and was sent along with "Nick" to pick up a 40'er with a load of lettuce at Guadalupe, Ca and bring it back to the yard. Truck was that POS 60 Emeryville with a jo-dog. Made it all the way from Guad into Santa Maria on Hwy 166 until Nick made the right turn onto Blosser Rd. Trailer came loose and set down perfectly straight in the lane. Legs had wheels. Had to get a crane there to pick it up. I was a bit embarrased even tho I wasn't driving cuz I knew this was not supposed to happen. I think the cable/handle for the release got hung on something.

It's still a everyday occurrence-we would have at least two a year. And every time the driver would
swear they heard the dogs latch, next question {did you get out and check to see if yoke bolt was
back?}. {No}. Then I would have to go through remove fifthwheel and check operation upside down
checking all parts. The thing about a Holland is once the yoke slides back covering the holes in
fifthwheel plate the locking jaws can't open and won't open till handle is pulled kicking the safety
finger/bar that is a secondary safety lock out of the way, it stops all forward movement of yoke.
*
The way the jaws/yoke get screwed up {one side of yoke bent} is from not having trailer at proper
height causing a {high pining}. 100% of unhooks come from poor driving/lazy technique and or
zero maintenance of fifthwheel. The Holland is the most reliable hitch design ever built going back
100 years.

Just give me a ltl and I'll be happy.
Guess what it has for power----A sad sack Double OO 8V92-. He will sell it real cheap--I might
just have to buy it to perform a LTL MOtor Grenade--POOF.:p

There not a bad looking truck--but I have never been able to figure out why on the eastern
part, Old Ford LTL's, GMC MH9500's, old Dodge Big Horns & CNT 900,1000 Dodges draw
such attention. Mack I can see--But like the saying goes {if they also build cars, and farm
implements probably best not buy it.
