Here are some photos taken in the Western Highlands of Papua New Guinea quite a few years ago when I was involved with a project to move 3 Komatsu D85 dozers to an oil refinery site which had no road access. The helicopter used was a Russian Mil27 with a lifting capacityof about 25 tons at sea level. In this case we were working at about 4000 ft. In the first photo showing the oil drilling rig site, everything that can be seen all had to be moved by helicopter due to the mountainous terrain and no roads at the time.PNG Oilfields003.jpgPNG Oilfields008.jpgPNG Oilfields009.jpgPNG Oilfields010.jpgPNG Oilfields011.jpg

Yair . . .

Good stuff Aussie John, interesting times.

No doubt you know the story of the Bulolo dredges?

For folks not familiar with PNG back in the 1930's one to two thousand ton bucket wheel gold dredges and the hydro plant to run them were flown into a remote valley. I don't recall the maximum dimensions of the components but no piece could weigh more than three tons.

If any one is interested do a Google images search "Bulolo gold dredges".

Cheers.

I think the Ion Iddriess book "Gold Dust and Ashes" is about the Bulolo River in PNG from discovery of gold to the time those dredges arrive.. It is a good read..

D7G LGP along with D6D LGP and D4D LGP

My modest stable of LGP Cat dozers are definitely showing their age, and with LGP tracks impossible to find in my neck of the woods, the D6D is shod with standard gauge tracks.

Finally I saved up enough to buy a new pair of LGP tracks for the D7G, from RFE Distributors, which is why I enrolled in this forum. Can any of you Cat spe******ts confirm whether RFE Distributors, located in Indiana, are a reliable source of after market Caterpillar tracks ?

I am set to shell out $12K for a new pair LGP tracks for the D7G, so I figured there would be no harm asking here about the reputation of RFE Distributors, before I take the plunge. Any pointers that can be offered will be greatly appreciated.

Hmm not sure why the word "spe******ts" was edited out in my sentence above, but I can't seem to find the edit button to correct that.

It is something to do with the auto censor on the site. It seems the missing letters make up the name of a certain "male enhancement" drug, and it gets censored out, even as a part of a legit word.

Sorry I have no help on your question re RFE, but I wish you luck.
