One thing you will learn about combination structures, weather the core is wood or iron, masonary will fall away from the structure. You have to get outside of the structures foot print to do this demo, and you need two machines, or at least work the corner.

Im relly surprised they didnt slap them with a stop work order after the dropped that first fall in the street. Or at least cordon of the road just in case. The way he grabbed the second wall and pulled part if it down on the excavator was just crazy.

This could be done without going outside the footprint; but not the way he did. We have closed Ocean Blvd. in Myrtle Beach SC in summer for a few hours at a time many times to take down motels. We haven't dropped anything in the street yet but I still won't do it with the street open.

Question to ask the Owner/Developer of the site - "How's that low bid thingy working out for you?".:cool:

What's amazing is no one got hurt. What's really dumbfounding is the fact that they not only knocked one wall into the street but continued and knocked a second one into the street. Idiots.

Here is another news story - http://www.vancouversun.com/Develop...lding+demolition+goes+awry/3142759/story.html

A few humorous quotes from the article -

"No one got injured and no one got hurt," said Karmjeet, who was operating the backhoe. "[The media are] making it as if a new movie is coming out ... it hurts because damages have been caused and we're the ones liable.

Well yeah, it's called owning your own business. Funny how you are held responsible for your actions. (Karmjeet is one of the owners of the demo company)

The company took all the proper safety precautions before starting the demolition, including closing off Hornby, he said. He noted the incident occurred during rush hour when "it's hard to control traffic and pedestrians."

Hmmm, ya' think you might have planned that section of demolition any other time than rush hour?

Pure incompetence on the part of the contractor and the developer.

Nice work....NOT! Lucky nobody got squished. We had somebody do something similar here in Winnipeg Roger's sewer and water lowballed everybody to get the job like they usually do, only thing is they didn't have any demolition experience and the job was to take down an old brick theatre and to make a long story short they dropped part of it on to Main street and ended up getting black balled by the city and aren't allowed to do business with the city anymore. Imrie and Rakowski ended up finishing the job after that.

I bet the guy in his car at the light had to change his shorts! Everyone has bad days but come on that was just silly, think a little before you act. At least in a downtown area!

Just shows you how valueless workers are in these countries. If something happens there are plenty more lining up to take his place. Like the old computer game 'Lemmings'
